{"id":1128,"date":"2026-02-08T13:24:44","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T13:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1128"},"modified":"2026-02-08T13:24:44","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T13:24:44","slug":"dalai-lamas-office-says-the-spiritual-leader-has-never-met-epstein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1128","title":{"rendered":"Dalai Lama\u2019s office says the spiritual leader has never met Epstein"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/02\/08173455ff6b168.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The office of the Dalai Lama said on Sunday that he had never met convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, after Chinese media reported the Tibetan Buddhist leader\u2019s name was mentioned in a cache of files released by the US government.<\/p>\n<p>The US Justice Department published last month the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1970284\">latest tranche<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1939363\/republican-us-house-committee-releases-thousands-of-epstein-files\">Epstein files<\/a> \u2014 more than three million documents, photos and videos related to its investigation into the disgraced financier.<\/p>\n<p>An <em>AFP<\/em> search of the files found the Dalai Lama\u2019s name was mentioned more than 150 times, with no mention of him meeting or interacting with Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>The mere mention of someone\u2019s name in the Epstein files does not in itself imply any wrongdoing by that person.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full sm:w-1\/2  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1971582\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--newskitlink  \">    <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSome recent media reports and social media posts concerning the \u2018Epstein files\u2019 are attempting to link His Holiness the Dalai Lama with Jeffrey Epstein,\u201d the leader\u2019s office said in a statement posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can unequivocally confirm that His Holiness has never met Jeffrey Epstein or authorised any meeting or interaction with him by anyone on His Holiness\u2019s behalf,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DalaiLama\/status\/2020350986683052473\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DalaiLama\/status\/2020350986683052473\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>On Thursday, state-run broadcaster <em>CGTN<\/em> <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/news.cgtn.com\/news\/2026-02-05\/Dalai-s-name-appeared-168-times-in-Epstein-files-1KwviLZgjiE\/p.html\">reported<\/a> that \u201cDalai Lama\u201d appeared at least 169 times in the Epstein files and mentioned an email in which an unknown sender told Epstein he was considering going to an event the Dalai Lama was set to attend.<\/p>\n<p>The 90-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner fled the Tibetan capital Lhasa at the age of 23 after Chinese troops crushed an uprising in 1959.<\/p>\n<p>He now lives in exile in the northern Indian town of Dharamsala and leads a push for greater autonomy for Tibetans that China has condemned, calling the spiritual leader a rebel and a separatist.<\/p>\n<p>A search into the Epstein files, released by the US DOJ and accessed by <em>AFP<\/em> produced 154 results about the Dalai Lama.<\/p>\n<p>AFP did not identify any mention or suggestion of a meeting between the Dalai Lama and Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>The email mentioned by <em>CGTN<\/em> and seen by <em>AFP<\/em> was sent by a person whose name is redacted, in which they write to Epstein: \u201cAbout the event I told u almost a month ago on island that dalai lama is coming and I want to go there to see him.
