We will be going for Rawalpindi!\u201d announced the company\u2019s chief executive officer, Ahsan Tahir.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the ceremony, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Walee Technologies on their successful bid and expressed gratitude to former board chairman Najam Sethi for his vision for the Multan Sultans franchise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMultan Sultans was created by Najam Sethi <em>sahib<\/em>; we are so pleased he is with us today,\u201d Naqvi said, inviting Sethi onto the stage.<\/p>\n<p>In his remarks, Sethi said, \u201cI\u2019m obviously delighted to be here; this is the culmination of a dream come true.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m obviously over the moon that it\u2019s come through under Mohsin Naqvi, who is a dear, dear friend of mine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sethi hailed the winning bid as a \u201cgreat moment for Pakistan cricket\u201d, adding that Naqvi would give good news \u201cbeyond PSL\u201d over the coming days.<\/p>\n<p>Later, at a press conference with representatives from Walee Technologies, Naqvi said that the future of the Multan Sultans brand would have to be considered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot ask the person paying Rs2.45bn to keep the name Multan Sultans,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we discussed auctioning Multan Sultans, we planned to keep it for one or two years. But there was a good environment in the market and we were already auctioning five or six teams,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The PCB chief noted that there were concerns, given the brand\u2019s age and the possibility of damage to its reputation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, Multan Sultans is very close to my heart, so we will come up with a solution,\u201d Naqvi said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the criteria for setting the opening bid at Rs1.82bn, he replied that it was the second-highest bid for the Sialkot team, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1965821\">sold<\/a> for Rs1.85bn.<\/p>\n<p>To a question about ongoing meetings with a delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) over Pakistan\u2019s boycott of the match with India in the T20 World Cup, Naqvi replied, \u201cThe issue was Bangladesh\u2019s. We did not want to let their point of view go; they are our brothers and you saw the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThings are happening, which is why I won\u2019t say much, but the ICC and the Bangladesh board are in that phase where if I say anything, it won\u2019t be right. We\u2019ll update you once we receive information,\u201d the PCB chief said.<\/p>\n<p>Naqvi said that \u201cguests need to be respected\u201d when asked about the attitude of the visiting ICC delegation.<\/p>\n<p>Walee Technologies is a global company specialising in projects in the media, finance and technology sectors, according to their <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/walee.pk\/about-walee\/\">website<\/a>, which added that the company had also earlier acquired PSL livestreaming rights.<\/p>\n<p>The Multan franchise, started in 2017, competed in eight consecutive editions of the PSL, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1631329\">winning <\/a>the league in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Last November, the franchise was left <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1957302\">ownerless <\/a>after the PCB did not extend a renewal offer to owner Ali Khan Tareen.
