{"id":1602,"date":"2026-02-10T11:20:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T11:20:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1602"},"modified":"2026-02-10T11:20:48","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T11:20:48","slug":"president-zardari-welcomes-uzbek-presidents-invitation-to-visit-emphasises-strengthening-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1602","title":{"rendered":"President Zardari welcomes Uzbek president\u2019s invitation to visit, emphasises strengthening ties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/02\/10144652bd68186.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev\u2019s invitation to visit the country and emphasised strengthening ties between Islamabad and Tashkent, the president\u2019s media wing said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press release by the President\u2019s Secretariat, the president met with Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev, who called on him at Aiwan-e-Sadr and handed over a letter from the Uzbek president, who had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1971221\">visited<\/a> Pakistan for two days last week.<\/p>\n<p>In his letter, Mirziyoyev thanked President Zardari, the government and the people of Pakistan for the extraordinary hospitality and warm welcome extended to him during his visit. He also expressed gratitude for being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1971425\">conferred<\/a> the Nishan-e-Pakistan, Pakistan\u2019s highest civil award, as well as the honorary professorship and doctorate, according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Mirziyoyev reiterated his invitation to President Zardari, earlier conveyed during their t\u00eate-\u00e0-t\u00eate,\u201d it added, referring to the Uzbek president\u2019s invitation to President Zardari to visit Uzbekistan \u201cat a convenient time in order to further develop comprehensive cooperation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Zardari accepted the invitation and directed the concerned authorities from the Pakistani side to coordinate with their Uzbek counterparts to finalise the visit later this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president said that Pakistan attached great significance to its close brotherly relations with Uzbekistan, while underscoring the importance of effective follow-up on the outcomes of Mirziyoyev\u2019s recent \u201chistoric and result-oriented\u201d state visit to Pakistan, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed Pakistan\u2019s commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Uzbekistan in \u201ckey sectors including food and agriculture, mining, information technology, tourism, health and banking\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The president also welcomed Uzbekistan\u2019s interest in importing halal meat, fruits and potatoes from Pakistan as a positive step towards enhancing bilateral trade, it added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Zardari also conveyed his gratitude to Mirziyoyev for his message of solidarity and support following the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1971418\">terrorist attack<\/a> in Islamabad,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Zardari reaffirmed the shared resolve of Pakistan and Uzbekistan to \u201ccontinue their joint journey of peace, stability and development\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>During Mirziyoyev\u2019s two-day visit to Pakistan, the two sides signed a protocol for enhancing bilateral trade between the two countries to $2 billion within the next five years.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his delight that the Uzbek president and his delegation visited Islamabad, his \u201csecond home\u201d, for the second time in four years.
