{"id":1633,"date":"2026-02-10T14:33:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:33:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1633"},"modified":"2026-02-10T14:33:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T14:33:42","slug":"special-committee-formed-to-monitor-development-work-review-any-security-operations-in-kp-districts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1633","title":{"rendered":"Special committee formed to monitor development work, review any security operations in KP districts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/02\/1017532554e2e7e.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday decided to establish a special sub-committee to monitor development work and \u201creview any military operations\u201d in certain districts.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was taken at a high-level meeting at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar to review the overall security situation in the province.<\/p>\n<p>According to a handout, the meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the national security adviser, and Peshawar corps commander, along with senior civil and military officials.<\/p>\n<p>The press release said that at the outset of the meeting, the attendees paid tribute to the civilians and security personnel martyred in terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/YarMKNiazi\/status\/2021198619907588251\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YarMKNiazi\/status\/2021198619907588251\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The high-level meeting decided that Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches scheduled for this year would be held in Peshawar.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the meeting decided to implement a provincial governance model in Malakand Division under the supervision of the police and other provincial institutions.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the model would then be implemented in \u201cphases in the affected districts, particularly Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The press release said that to ensure the effective \u201cmonitoring of development projects and review of any security operations\u201d in these districts, a special sub-committee would be formed under the leadership of CM Afridi. It was decided that the committee will hold monthly meetings.<\/p>\n<p>The statement added that the special sub-committee would also include elected public representatives, the Peshawar corps commander, the KP chief secretary, the inspector general, provincial officials, and representatives from federal institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The special sub-committee would also be responsible for \u201ccreating opportunities for alternative employment, ensuring a steady income for the locals\u201d and arrangements to address the issues of temporarily displaced persons, the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, it was decided that \u201ceffective communication between the Centre and the KP govt, complete coordination, and a united stance will be ensured on key policy matters to address issues such as terrorism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It was also decided to promote sustainable employment opportunities to prevent the youth from developing extremist ideas. The meeting also decided that strict action against illegal SIM cards, explosive material, and extortion will be taken, the meeting decided.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, attention will be paid to the phased profiling of non-custom paid vehicles,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, in an apex committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1971238\">meeting<\/a>, \u201cconsultation, cooperation and coordination\u201d with the federal government and all political parties were termed \u201cessential\u201d for the success of a comprehensive counter-terrorism policy.<\/p>\n<p>The panel discussed the \u201cgeneral rise in terrorism incidents in KP and an action plan to eradicate the menace of <em>Fitna al Khawarij<\/em> and establish complete peace and stability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/crss.pk\/border-closure-brings-down-terrorist-violence\/\"><u>Annual Security Report 2025<\/u><\/a> from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), KP recorded a significant surge in violence last year as \u201cfatalities rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"economic-security-decisions-taken\" href=\"#economic-security-decisions-taken\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Economic, security decisions taken<\/h2>\n<p>In a video statement, CM\u2019s aide for public relations Shafi Jan said a briefing on the security situation was provided during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>He added that certain decisions related to the province\u2019s law and order and the economy were made.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/YarMKNiazi\/status\/2021212519168344565\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/YarMKNiazi\/status\/2021212519168344565\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Elaborating on the economic decisions, Adviser to KP CM on Finance Muzzammil Aslam said the meeting was conducted in an \u201cextremely pleasant environment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the meeting was informed in detail about the financial issues faced by the KP government, as had been communicated by CM Afridi to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969192\/kp-cm-pens-letter-to-pm-shehbaz-over-centres-persistent-failure-to-release-constitutionally-guaranteed-funds\">January letter<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1970596\/in-meeting-with-cm-afridi-pm-emphasises-need-for-cooperation-between-centre-kp-govt\">meeting<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p>Aslam lamented that had the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1970466\">National Finance Commission (NFC) Award<\/a> been announced, it would have solved many issues of KP.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1970984\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--newskitlink  \">    <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe also told them that due to the reduced money coming from the Centre, the KP government was contributing from its funds for the merged districts, but it was insufficient,\u201d the KP official said, adding that suggestions were made to improve the future situation.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1972284\/special-committee-formed-to-monitor-development-work-review-any-security-operations-in-kp-districts\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday decided to establish a special sub-committee to monitor development work and \u201creview any military operations\u201d in certain districts.
