{"id":1768,"date":"2026-02-11T01:58:37","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T01:58:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1768"},"modified":"2026-02-11T01:58:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T01:58:37","slug":"police-officer-suspended-for-illegally-detaining-suspect-in-lahore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=1768","title":{"rendered":"Police officer suspended for illegally detaining suspect in Lahore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/02\/10173123e93bc45.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>LAHORE: The head of a police checkpost was suspended on Tuesday for illegally detaining a suspect in Kahna area, according to officials.<\/p>\n<p>The development came as a <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dpx_pe7XH_U\">video clip <\/a>of the suspect in chains went viral on social media, prompting Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Faisal Kamran to take notice.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect, identified as Mukhtar, was reportedly being kept at the police checkpost for the last four days.<\/p>\n<p>Lahore Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Tauqir told <em>Dawn<\/em> that the suspect was found in chains, and the Lakhoki checkpost In-charge subinspector Adnan Virk was found guilty of keeping him in illegal custody.<\/p>\n<p>The SSP said that, as per the initial police record, no first information report had been lodged against the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>However, local residents claimed that the suspect was involved in criminal activities and they had complained to the police to arrest and investigate him.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, DIG Kamran said that the official was not authorised to detain the suspect at the checkpost even after the registration of a case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspect can only be sent to the lock-up of the police station concerned,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He appointed the Kahna Circle assistant subinspector as the inquiry officer to further investigate the incident.<\/p>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1972282\/police-officer-suspended-for-illegally-detaining-suspect-in-lahore\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAHORE: The head of a police checkpost was suspended on Tuesday for illegally detaining a suspect in Kahna area, according to officials.
