{"id":179,"date":"2026-01-29T18:11:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:11:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=179"},"modified":"2026-01-29T18:11:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T18:11:31","slug":"kp-cm-afridi-says-he-will-camp-near-adiala-jail-overnight-along-with-pti-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=179","title":{"rendered":"KP CM Afridi says he will camp near Adiala jail overnight along with PTI workers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/01\/291522357cd09e2.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>RAWALPINDI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who reached a police picket near Rawalpindi\u2019s Adiala jail on Thursday afternoon, announced that he, along with PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and other party members and supporters, would be camping at the spot overnight.<\/p>\n<p>Afridi, who has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1960612\">seeking a meeting<\/a> with the incarcerated prime minister since he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1949099\">assumed office <\/a>of the provincial chief executive in October last year, but to no avail.<\/p>\n<p>He again reached Factory Naka \u2014 a police picket near the Adiala jail \u2014 today in yet another attempt to meet Imran, with Thursday and Tuesday being court-mandated dates for meeting with the former prime minister.<\/p>\n<p>However, he, as well as Imran\u2019s sisters and lawyers, have been barred from meeting him for the past several weeks \u2014 a restriction that has made sit-ins and protests near the prison a usual occurrence. On several occasions, police have also used force to disperse the protesters, who often camp at Factory Naka.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media on Thursday, Afridi announced his plans for an overnight stay and said \u201cmost of [PTI] parliamentarians have also reached the spot and some others will be arriving in some time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Standing alongside Raja, he added, \u201cThis is about our leader\u2019s life. We will not let this get normalised. We will spend the entire night here. We are waiting for a meeting between Imran Khan <em>sahib<\/em> and his family and personal physician.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PTIofficial\/status\/2016870428086583521\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PTIofficial\/status\/2016870428086583521\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He also said that if deliberate attempts were being made to worsen the situation for no reason, \u201cwe cannot do anything about this. All responsibility then lies with the government. Those who are not allowing the meeting will be responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The KP CM said if Imran\u2019s sisters were allowed to meet him, the situation could be prevented from worsening.<\/p>\n<p>CM Afridi\u2019s visit comes after the PTI on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969364\/pti-says-imran-suffering-from-ailment-that-could-permanently-damage-his-eyesight-if-not-treated-promptly\">raised concerns<\/a> about Imran\u2019s health. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969716\/imran-khan-underwent-20-minute-medical-procedure-at-islamabads-pims-confirms-info-minister\">confirmed<\/a> earlier in the day that the PTI founder had undergone a medical procedure for an eye ailment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) in Islamabad on Saturday night.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to Tarar\u2019s statement, Afridi said he had \u201cserious reservations\u201d about the former premier\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PTIofficial\/status\/2016807853902676292\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PTIofficial\/status\/2016807853902676292\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>For his part, Raja said they had sent a list of names of those who were supposed to meet Imran to the prison administration as per the directions of the Islamabad High Court. \u201cAll those who have been mentioned in the list are present here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Raja mentioned that they would not return without meeting the PTI founder today, calling the meeting Imran\u2019s \u201chuman right\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the former premier\u2019s brief visit to Pims for a procedure, he said, \u201cThe PTI founder was taken to Pims secretly on Saturday night.
