{"id":240,"date":"2026-01-31T11:15:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T11:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=240"},"modified":"2026-01-31T11:15:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T11:15:07","slug":"at-least-58-terrorists-killed-as-skirmishes-continue-in-balochistan-after-coordinated-attacks-at-12-locations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=240","title":{"rendered":"At least 58 terrorists killed as skirmishes continue in Balochistan after coordinated attacks at \u201812 locations\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/01\/311206014506ad5.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Security forces killed at least 58 terrorists on Saturday as skirmishes continued in Balochistan after coordinated attacks at 12 locations were foiled, according to security sources.<\/p>\n<p>During the clashes with the terrorists, 10 personnel of the security forces and the police were martyred, said security sources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Fitna-al-Hindustan<\/em> carried out attacks at 12 locations across Balochistan\u201d, said the sources, adding that all attacks were foiled due to timely and effective action.<\/p>\n<p>The state has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1914525\"><u>designated<\/u><\/a> Balochistan-based terrorist groups as <em>Fitna-al-Hindustan<\/em> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1912930#:~:text=The%20term%20%E2%80%98Fitna%20al%20Hindu%C2%ADstan%E2%80%99%20is%20a%20new%20phrase%20coined%20by%20Pakistan%E2%80%99s%20military%2C%20aimed%20at%20framing%20India%E2%80%99s%20alleged%20role%20in%20terrorism%20as%20a%20deliberate%20destabilisation%20strategy%2C%20potentially%20to%20galvanise%20domestic%20support.\"><u>highlight<\/u><\/a> India\u2019s alleged role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>The terrorists also killed five members of a Baloch labourer\u2019s family in Gwadar, including a woman and three children, the sources added.<\/p>\n<p>State-run <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/radio.gov.pk\/31-01-2026\/forces-kill-37-terrorists-in-12-different-locations-of-balochistan\"><em>Radio Pakistan<\/em><\/a>, also citing security sources, said the \u201csecurity forces\u2019 pursuit and engagement with the terrorists at various locations are still ongoing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of these operations, there are reports of further terrorist casualties and damages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti highlighted that security forces had killed 70 terrorists at various locations across the province during just the past two days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the morning, in an attempt to shore up their declining morale, <em>Fitna-al-Hindustan<\/em> terrorists attempted to carry out attacks at multiple locations, which the courageous police of Balochistan and brave personnel of the FC (Frontier Corps) are jointly thwarting and have killed 37 more terrorists so far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese attacks cannot undermine our resolve against terrorism; we will continue to pursue them until the last terrorist,\u201d CM Bugti added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/paksarfrazbugti\/status\/2017525383349035183\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/paksarfrazbugti\/status\/2017525383349035183\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>According to a <em>Dawn<\/em> correspondent, while mobile phone services were working, data services were suspended in Quetta, Sibi and Chaman regions in the wake of the attacks.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"desperate-move\" href=\"#desperate-move\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>\u2018Desperate move\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Information Minister Attaullah Tarar described the attack as \u201ca desperate move\u201d by the terrorists while security forces were about to neutralise them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a desperate move by the terrorists. Our security forces are close to defeating the fighters of <em>Fitna-al-Hindustan<\/em> and <em>Fitna-al-Khawarij<\/em>,\u201d he said in an interview with <em>Geo News<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He said the security forces were alert at all locations and were not taken by surprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur security forces, personnel and officers have fought bravely. They were alert at all sites and fully prepared,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sharing casualty figures, he said 10 police and security personnel embraced martyrdom.<\/p>\n<p>Expressing deep sorrow, he said that terrorists of the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) had killed family members of Baloch labourers hailing from Khuzdar and Gwadar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a success as without any major loss, 58 terrorists were sent to hell,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Briefing on the security operation, the information minister said, \u201cSecurity forces are monitoring the situation, while aerial surveillance is also ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated that the attack was thwarted with full force.<\/p>\n<p>Tarar further said that the prime minister was aware of the situation and was in contact. \u201cThe prime minister condemned the attack and reaffirmed that we will not rest until the last terrorist is eliminated from the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the resolve of the state of Pakistan that it will not rest until terrorism is eliminated from the country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cWe are fully focused. The terrorists failed due to the unity of the Pakistani nation, and the entire nation stands behind the security forces.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"bugti-visits-quetta-attack-site\" href=\"#bugti-visits-quetta-attack-site\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Bugti visits Quetta attack site<\/h2>\n<p>CM Bugti also visited the site of a bomb blast in Quetta to review the security situation, a statement from the CM House said.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan Inspector General (IG) Muhammad Tahir provided a detailed briefing on the incident to the chief minister, who also met security and police personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe timely response against terrorist elements is commendable,\u201d Bugti was quoted as saying, hailing the effective actions taken by the police and the CTD.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnti-state elements will not be forgiven under any circumstances. There will be no compromise on peace in Balochistan,\u201d the chief minister asserted.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/shorts\/l7IBFEuNtKA?feature=share\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--youtube_short  media__item--relative\">\n<div style=\"position: relative;aspect-ratio: 9 \/ 16;overflow: hidden;max-width: 360px;margin: auto\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Earlier in the day, provincial government official Shahid Rind said police and the FC had foiled attempted terrorist attacks at a \u201cfew places across Balochistan\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rind, the special aide to CM for political and media affairs, noted on X that the attacks came after over 70 terrorists had been killed over the past two days by security forces at different locations across the province.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShahidRind\/status\/2017482856436838507\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ShahidRind\/status\/2017482856436838507\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<h2><a id=\"emergency-imposed-in-hospitals\" href=\"#emergency-imposed-in-hospitals\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Emergency imposed in hospitals<\/h2>\n<p>An emergency was imposed in all government hospitals across the province on the directives of Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar and Health Secretary Mujeebur Rehman.<\/p>\n<p>Kakar was supervising the provision of medical treatment to those \u201cinjured in the Quetta firing\u201d, a statement from the provincial health department said.<\/p>\n<p>The health minister directed Quetta Trauma Centre Managing Director Dr Arbab Kamran and Quetta Civil Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Hadi Kakar to ensure the \u201cimmediate\u201d provision of medical facilities.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the operating theatres of the Quetta Trauma Centre and Civil Hospital have been put on alert, and additional doctors have been deployed.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"ied-explosives-neutralised-in-nasirabad\" href=\"#ied-explosives-neutralised-in-nasirabad\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>\u2018IED, explosives neutralised in Nasirabad\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Separately, police said suspected explosive materials were found on a railway track in Balochistan\u2019s Nasirabad district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn anti-tank mine and explosive material were found on the railway line near Rabi Pul,\u201d said a statement by Nasirabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Asadullah Nasir.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA suspected IED (improvised explosive device) was neutralised as the police, FC and Special Branch took timely action,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>The recovered items included half a kilogramme of explosive material, petrol and an iron rod, according to SSP Nasir. The items were handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for further investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Railway tracks are a frequent target of terrorists, with the Jaffar Express coming under attack several times over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, on Monday night, a blast on the railway track linking Sindh to Balochistan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969199\">derailed four bogies<\/a> of the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express train coming from Peshawar and damaged the track.<\/p>\n<p>The Jaffar Express had also escaped attacks in Nasirabad in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1952080\">October <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1955463\">November<\/a> last year. Similar attempts also occurred during the two months in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1957218\">Kachhi<\/a> and Sindh\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1947205\">Shikarpur<\/a> district.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"resolve-to-fight-terror-till-its-complete-eradication\" href=\"#resolve-to-fight-terror-till-its-complete-eradication\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Resolve to fight terror till its \u2018complete eradication\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>President Asif Ali Zardari commended the army and the LEAs\u2019 professional expertise for foiling \u201cinfiltration attempts by <em>Fitna-al-Hindustan<\/em> terrorists at multiple locations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, he also paid tribute to the \u201csecurity personnel and innocent civilians who embraced martyrdom during the actions\u201d, and prayed for their high ranks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur commitment is not to make any compromise on Balochistan\u2019s peace, civilians\u2019 protection, and national unity,\u201d Zardari affirmed.<\/p>\n<p>He asserted that the state will continue its operations against \u201cenemy elements operating under external backing and their facilitators with full force and unity\u201d.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MediaCellPPP\/status\/2017531046800335131\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MediaCellPPP\/status\/2017531046800335131\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for \u201cfoiling coordinated attacks\u201d in 12 locations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI, along with the entire nation, am proud of our martyrs,\u201d the premier said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will continue the war against terrorism until its complete eradication from the country,\u201d he vowed.<\/p>\n<p>Balochistan Planning Minister Mir Zahoor Ahmed Buledi strongly condemned the \u201cdamage to public properties and terrorising citizens by a handful of terrorists\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBalochistan will not be held hostage by these perpetrators of violence. With public support, LEAs (law enforcement agencies) have foiled terrorist designs,\u201d he said on X.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed  media--uneven media--tweet\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ZahoorBuledi\/status\/2017508046227075372\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZahoorBuledi\/status\/2017508046227075372\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Buledi further said that Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti \u201ccut short his Islamabad engagements, including a meeting with the World Bank President &amp; returned to Quetta immediately to resume official work at the CM House\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"rise-in-terrorism\" href=\"#rise-in-terrorism\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Rise in terrorism<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1849349\"><u>proscribed<\/u><\/a> BLA has carried out frequent attacks in Balochistan, specifically targeting security forces and law enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2025, the United States also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1930224\/us-state-department-designates-bla-majeed-brigade-as-foreign-terrorist-organisations\">designated<\/a> the BLA and its Majeed Brigade squad as foreign terrorist organisations.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, CTD said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1969469\">six proclaimed offenders<\/a> affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during an operation in Pishin.<\/p>\n<p>On January 5, an IED attack in Panjgur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1965269\/1-killed-16-injured-in-panjgur-ied-attack\">killed one person<\/a> and injured 16 others.<\/p>\n<p>Despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1963742\">record militant deaths<\/a>, Pakistan saw a sharp escalation in militant violence in 2025, with terrorist attacks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1964537\/country-witnessed-34pc-increase-in-terrorism-in-2025\">rising by 34 per cent<\/a> and terrorism-related fatalities increasing by 21pc year-on-year, according to data released by the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full sm:w-1\/2  media--right  media--embed  media--uneven\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1964537\/country-witnessed-34pc-increase-in-terrorism-in-2025\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--newskitlink  \">    <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As many as 699 terrorist attacks were recorded countrywide during the year.<\/p>\n<p>In early December, security forces carried out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1958861\/nokundi-fc-hq-standoff-ends-all-militants-killed\">two-day operation<\/a> against militants who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1958450\">attacked<\/a> the brigade headquarters of Frontier Corps in Chagai district\u2019s Nokundi area.<\/p>\n<p>The same day the FC headquarters was targeted as a suicide bomber detonated himself at its main gate, armed terrorists also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1958450#:~:text=in%20the%20operation.-,Panjgur%20ambush,-Meanwhile%2C%20armed%20terrorists\">launched an attack<\/a> on an FC checkpost in Panjgur district\u2019s Gurmakan area.<\/p>\n<p>On November 24, three personnel were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1957149\">martyred<\/a> and 12 sustained injuries in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1957041\/3-fc-men-martyred-in-suicide-attack-on-forces-headquarters-in-peshawar\">suicide attack<\/a> on the FC headquarters in Peshawar.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>This is a developing story that is being updated as the situation evolves.
