\/><\/p>\n<p>United States President Donald Trump announced a \u201ctrade deal\u201d with India on Monday after speaking to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying New Delhi agreed to stop buying Russian oil and may purchase it instead from Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116002095109616255\">post <\/a>on social media platform Truth Social, the US president said that he and the Indian premier spoke about \u201cmany things\u201d, including trade and the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Trump added that \u201cout of friendship and respect\u201d for Modi, the US would lower its reciprocal tariff rate from 25 per cent to 18pc, while India would reduce tariffs on US goods to zero.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe (Modi) agreed to stop buying Russian oil, and to buy much more from the United States and, potentially, Venezuela,\u201d Trump wrote, adding that this would \u201cend the war\u201d between Russia and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left  media--embed US president, calling Modi \u201cone of my greatest friends, and a powerful and respected leader of his country\u201d, said that he agreed to \u201cbuy American\u201d at a much higher level.<\/p>\n<p>Trump added that India would buy, \u201cover $500 billion of US energy, technology, agricultural, coal, and many other products\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Modi took to X to hail the discussion and express his happiness with the reduced tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBig thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this wonderful announcement,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen two large economies and the world\u2019s largest democracies work together, it benefits our people and unlocks immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation,\u201d Modi said.<\/p>\n<p>The Indian prime minister called Trump\u2019s leadership is \u201cvital for global peace, stability, and prosperity\u201d, adding that New Delhi fully supports
