Advanced polls are now open for three key byelections<\/a> to the House of Commons, Elections Canada said Friday.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Byelections are scheduled to be held on April 13 in two Liberal stronghold seats in the Toronto area \u2013 Scarborough Southwest and University-Rosedale \u2013 and the contested riding of Terrebonne in Quebec, north of Montreal.<\/p>\n

Voters in Scarborough Southwest and University\u2014Rosedale will choose new members\u00a0of\u00a0Parliament after two former Liberal cabinet ministers stepped down.<\/p>\n

Bill Blair left his seat to become Canada\u2019s high commissioner to\u00a0the\u00a0U.K., while Chrystia Freeland has a number\u00a0of\u00a0new roles, including as economic adviser to\u00a0the\u00a0Ukrainian president and CEO\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Rhodes Trust.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0race in Terrebonne last\u00a0April\u00a0was\u00a0the\u00a0closest in\u00a0the\u00a0country \u2014\u00a0the\u00a0Liberals won by a single vote\u00a0on\u00a0election night. A court challenge was filed after it was found that Elections Canada put an incorrect return address\u00a0on\u00a0some mail-in ballots, which were never counted.<\/p>\n

The Supreme Court of Canada invalidated the result in February, and the vote is being redone.<\/p>\n

If\u00a0the\u00a0Liberals win all three seats, they\u2019ll have 173 MPs in the House of Commons and a majority in\u00a0the\u00a0House\u00a0of\u00a0Commons.<\/p>\n

Advanced polls began at 9 am Eastern in all three ridings on Friday, and polls will remain open until 9 pm. Voters can cast their ballots early on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 9 am to 9 pm Eastern.<\/p>\n
