The Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday<\/a> that it would add microplastics and pharmaceuticals to a list of drinking water contaminants that it\u2019s drafting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a press briefing, Lee Zeldin, the agency\u2019s administrator, said the gesture was a \u201cdirect response to the concern of millions of Americans, who have long demanded answers about what they and their families are drinking every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a parallel move, the Department of Health and Human Services also announced Thursday that it was allocating $144 million to STOMP<\/a>, short for the\u00a0Systematic Targeting of Microplastics \u2014 a new program aimed at devising new microplastics studies and eventually removing the toxins from the nation\u2019s drinking water.<\/p>\n
