Chan School of Public Health and a co-author of emerging research on prostate cancer and ejaculation, told The Post that her team has come across some interesting patterns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Data from a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/mens-health\/ejaculation_frequency_and_prostate_cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">long-term health and lifestyle study<\/a> assessing more than 50,000 men since 1986 suggests that those who ejaculate 21 or more times per month had a 19-22% lower risk of prostate cancer than those who came less, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u201921 or more\u2019 isn\u2019t a strict biological magic number, but rather a finding that emerged from our robust statistical analysis,\u201d Mucci explained, adding that her team has even observed small reductions in risk for men who ejaculated only eight times per month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWhile 21 is the benchmark we identified,\u201d she continued, \u201cthe broader implication is that more frequent ejaculation may offer a greater potential benefit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancer.org\/cancer\/types\/prostate-cancer\/about\/key-statistics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Cancer Society<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/01\/health\/this-cancer-often-has-no-warning-signs-a-pioneering-new-treatment-freezes-it-away\/\">prostate cancer<\/a> is the second most common cancer in US men, after skin cancer, as roughly 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also the second-leading cause of cancer-related death in men, behind lung cancer.<\/p>\n<p>And while the \u201cprecise biological mechanisms\u201d at play are still being studied, prevailing theories suggest that \u201cfrequent ejaculation may help \u2018flush out\u2019 potential carcinogens, reduce inflammation within the prostate or even influence gene expression in the normal prostate tissue,\u201d Mucci said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fascinating area to explore, and these observational findings have been reinforced by other large studies.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>FCancer\u2019s new campaign is encouraging men to \u201cbeat cancer off, literally.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">BeatCancerOff.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Yael Cohen, co-founder of FCancer, told The Post that the nonprofit\u2019s campaign was ultimately designed with education in mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe use humor because it sticks. But once the joke lands, it\u2019s about what comes next: getting screened, talking to your doctor and understanding your risk. Your hands don\u2019t replace your doctor; they get you to them,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>Ultimately, she added, \u201cwhat matters is men knowing that something they likely already do could actually benefit their health\u201d \u2014 something most men aren\u2019t aware has anti-cancer benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Cohen knows that cancer prevention isn\u2019t typically so light-hearted \u2014\u00a0but this new research presented a unique opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis might be the only prevention tip that\u2019s genuinely fun,\u201d she said. \u201cUsually, prevention is all about what you \u2018should\u2019 or \u2018shouldn\u2019t do. This is one \u2018should\u2019 most people won\u2019t mind adding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the campaign spotlights masturbation, Mucci said the research \u201cfocused on ejaculation frequency, regardless of the specific activity that leads to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cIt\u2019s about making sure you\u2019re getting the appropriate screening, understanding your risk factors and actually talking to your physician,\u201d Cohen said.\u00a0 <span class=\"credit\">diy13 \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mucci believes a campaign like this could encourage more and earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/21\/health\/a-new-saliva-test-could-help-accurately-detect-prostate-cancer\/\">prostate cancer screenings<\/a>, putting patients in a better position to advocate for their health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI strongly support this campaign because it takes robust scientific findings and turns them into a conversation men can actually have, breaking down barriers and encouraging them to engage with their prostate health, understand their personal risk and seek appropriate screening and advice from their physician,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, coming is only half the battle \u2014 the other half is going \u2026 to the doctor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about making sure you\u2019re getting the appropriate screening, understanding your risk factors and actually talking to your physician,\u201d Cohen said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one else will do that for you, so take control, both in the fun way and the critical way.
