The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0is sympathizing with foreign college graduates who use the controversial H-1B program to grab white-collar jobs needed by American graduates.<\/p>\n \u201cThese highly skilled, highly educated foreign workers have been documenting the challenges of trying to build a career in the U.S.,\u201d the accompanying video<\/a> said.<\/p>\n \u201cIf I don\u2019t find a job, I have to leave the country,\u201d an Indian science graduate<\/a> named Ananya Joshi told the camera.<\/p>\n \u201cI sent out 907 applications<\/a>,\u201d said a\u00a0Chinese marketing graduate<\/a> named Haina, who was laid off from a job in September 2025.<\/p>\n \u201cI want to use my talents to change the world,\u201d said a Taiwanese graduate, Wen-Hsing Huang. He got hired by Amazon.<\/p>\n The breezy articles come amid mass layoffs of U.S. graduates who are being fired by tech companies, including Oracle, a California-based database company. The companies are also sending<\/a> many of the jobs to low-wage India.<\/p>\n The New York Post<\/em> wrote<\/a>\u00a0on April 2:<\/p>\n As thousands of Oracle employees\u00a0awoke<\/a> on Tuesday to an email\u00a0informing them they were being laid off, the workers likely didn\u2019t know the tech company had been busy trying to hire foreign staff.<\/p>\n According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services data, Oracle filed for roughly 3,126 petitions to employ H-1B workers in fiscal years 2025 and 2026.<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n \u201cIf this doesn\u2019t make you angry, maybe you need to read some heartfelt posts on LinkedIn from Oracle employees who are U.S. citizens and have been laid off after working at Oracle for years,\u201d [one Oracle employee] wrote.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n \u201cThe IT industry is in a meltdown,\u201d said Kevin Lynn, founder of U.S. Tech Workers. \u201cWith the Oracle announcement, we\u2019re looking at 110,000 to 115,000 tech-job cuts\u2026 We need an employment visa moratorium now,\u201d he said, adding:<\/p>\n This [issue] is a $100 bill in the gutter [waiting] for any candidate, anyone in office: If you\u2019re in office and you want to make sure you get reelected, pick up this $100 bill\u2026 The American public sees it\u2019s literally hitting them in the face and the pocketbook, they\u2019re seeing their kids graduate after investing heavily in their kids, yet both students and parents getting degrees that can\u2019t deliver a decent-paying job in their field.
