{"id":40802,"date":"2026-04-04T09:47:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T09:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=40802"},"modified":"2026-04-04T09:47:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T09:47:35","slug":"argentina-expels-top-iranian-diplomat-in-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=40802","title":{"rendered":"Argentina Expels Top Iranian Diplomat in Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">The government of Argentina declared Iranian charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires\u00a0Mohsen Soltani Tehrani\u00a0persona non grata Thursday\u00a0and gave him 48 hours to leave the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">In an official statement, the Argentine Foreign Ministry explained that it is expelling Soltani in response to the \u201cfalse, offensive, and inappropriate\u201d accusations levied by the Iranian regime against Argentina and its government after President Javier Milei designated the\u00a0Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a terrorist organization this week \u2014 a decision <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/StateDeptCT\/status\/2039776009831039048\">welcomed<\/a> and applauded by the United States.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>President Milei, a staunch supporter of the United States and Israel, has maintained a hardline stance on the rogue Iranian Islamic regime and, in March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/latin-america\/2026\/03\/10\/argentinas-javier-milei-declares-iran-our-enemy-in-nyc-tour\/\">declared<\/a> Iran an \u201cenemy\u201d of Argentina during a speech at Yeshiva University in Manhattan. Argentina holds Iran and its proxy terror group Hezbollah responsible for two terrorist attacks against\u00a0Jewish targets in Buenos Aires: the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy and the 1994\u00a0bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association (AMIA).<\/p>\n<p>The Argentine presidency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.argentina.gob.ar\/noticias\/comunicado-oficial-numero-142\">reiterated<\/a> in its IRGC terrorist designation that local investigations determined the direct participation of top members of the corps in both attacks and that Ahmad Vahidi, who is currently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2026\/03\/02\/reported-replacement-iran-military-chief-ahmad-vahidi-wanted-argentina-terrorism\/\">presumed<\/a> to be the IRGC chief, is actively wanted by Argentine authorities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">The Iranian regime, through its embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay, responded Wednesday to Milei\u00a0designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/politica\/2026\/04\/02\/amenazante-reaccion-de-iran-a-la-decision-de-argentina-de-declarar-organizacion-terrorista-a-la-guardia-revolucionaria\/\">condemning<\/a> the decision as \u201cillegal and unjustified\u201d and an \u201cunforgivable offense to the Iranian people,\u201d according to the outlet\u00a0<em>Infobae<\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<p><em>Infobae<\/em> also noted that the Iranian regime claimed that the designation generates an \u201cinternational responsibility for the Argentine State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/t\/assets\/html\/tweet-5.html#2039355428178444388\" data-btlnk=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IRANinURUGUAY\/status\/2039355428178444388\" class=\"bnn-if-tweet\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"260\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Argentine government responded to the threats by ordering\u00a0charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires Tehrani to leave Argentina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch statements constitute unacceptable interference in our country\u2019s internal affairs and a deliberate misrepresentation of decisions adopted in accordance with international law and the national legal system,\u201d the Argentine Foreign Ministry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis latest offensive act comes on top of the Islamic Republic of Iran\u2019s persistent refusal to cooperate with the Argentine justice system in the investigation of the AMIA bombing, as well as its repeated failure to comply with international arrest and extradition warrants for those responsible,\u201d the Ministry continued, and added that the designation of individuals wanted by Argentine justice in high-ranking positions at the IRC is \u201cparticularly serious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa\u2019ar welcomed Argentina\u2019s decision to expel Tehrani in a social media <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gidonsaar\/status\/2039745307521516006\">post<\/a>, thanking his Argentine counterpart Pablo Quirno for the \u201ccourageous and inspiring\u201d decision.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p>\u201cArgentina, under the leadership of president Javier Milei, stands as a model for defending the values of freedom and leading the fight against terrorism,\u201d Sa\u2019ar said. \u201cThe Iranian regime is murderous toward its own citizens and its neighbors; it is the number one threat to global order and security. It is not legitimate. Period.\u201d<br \/>Days after Milei\u2019s participation at Yeshiva University, Iranian state media directly accused the Argentine president of\u00a0\u201ccrossing an unforgivable red line\u201d for declaring the Middle Eastern nation an enemy in response to its involvement in the two 1990s terrorist attacks in Buenos Aires. In a piece published by\u00a0the state-affiliated<em> Tehran Times<\/em>, Milei and his government were accused of turning Argentina into an \u201cinstrument at the hands of the Zionist regime and the United States\u201d to advance in a purported more than 30-year-old \u201cIranophobia project\u201d against Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Infobae reported on Friday that, after the anti-Milei piece was published, the Argentine government elevated its security level to its \u201chighest\u201d and immediately implemented a special protocol to safeguard sensitive targets in the country. Additionally, the Argentine government deployed a permanent security coverage service for the Jewish community in the country, the AMIA building, and the U.S. and Israeli embassies. According to\u00a0<em>Infobae<\/em>, the security alert remains active as of Friday, April 3.<\/p>\n<p>Uruguayan Senator Javier Garc\u00eda told\u00a0<em>Infobae<\/em> that he has called upon Uruguay\u2019s leftist President Yamand\u00fa Orsi to protest Iran\u2019s usage of its embassy to threaten Argentina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUsing our country to attack Argentina \u2014 a neighbor and member of Mercosur \u2014 was a political decision by Iran that undoubtedly had its reasons. But it deserves to be officially condemned by our Foreign Ministry,\u201d Garc\u00eda said. \u201cArgentina has suffered too much from terrorism and death linked to Iranian support to forget this and let it pass in silence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a sense of solidarity and remembrance that reminds us of the significance of the attacks Argentina suffered \u2014 the AMIA bombing, the attack on the Israeli embassy \u2014 and the proven ties between Iran and Hezbollah, isn\u2019t that right?\u201d He continued. \u201cSo, the fact that Uruguay has been used as a platform to attack and offend Argentina is a significant geopolitical development, and for us, from our perspective as Uruguayans, it cannot go unnoticed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Infobae<\/em> pointed out that\u00a0Iranian charg\u00e9 d\u2019affaires Tehrani presented his diplomatic credentials in Argentina in 2021 during the administration of socialist former President\u00a0Alberto Fern\u00e1ndez.
