{"id":40816,"date":"2026-04-04T10:14:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T10:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=40816"},"modified":"2026-04-04T10:14:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T10:14:34","slug":"viewers-decry-craptastic-live-coverage-of-artemis-ii-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=40816","title":{"rendered":"Viewers decry &#8216;craptastic&#8217; live coverage of Artemis II launch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Their dreams of a perfect view went up in smoke.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers have blasted NASA\u2019s live coverage of the Artemis II rocket\u2019s historic launch on Wednesday evening, with many claiming that the camera essentially missed liftoff, with others declaring that the best videos were shot from passing passenger planes.<\/p>\n<p>The footage was filmed yesterday evening as Artemis II <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/01\/us-news\/artemis-ii-blasts-off-in-glorious-return-to-golden-age-of-space-exploration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">successfully ferried four astronauts<\/a> \u2014 Reid Wiseman, Christina Koch, Jeremy Hansen, and Victor Glover\u00a0 \u2014 into Earth\u2019s orbit from Florida\u2019s Cape Canaveral for a ten-day mission that involves circumnavigating the moon.<\/p>\n<p>If successful, this would mark our first lunar journey since the Apollo 17 touched down on our rocky satellite in 1972, as well as our deepest journey into space at over 250,000 miles.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Smoke-filled footage of the historic launch of Artemis II. <span class=\"credit\">NASA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But as the rocket lifted off ahead of this so-called space exploration renaissance, everyone seemed to be thinking the same thing \u2014 why can\u2019t we see it? <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWaited years for this launch and the cameraman aimed at the smoke,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/mildlyinfuriating\/comments\/1sa0e2i\/waited_years_for_this_launch_and_the_cameraman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fumed one spectator on Reddit <\/a>while decrying the alleged shoddy ignition footage. \u201cHow do you miss the entire rocket during a rocket launch??\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They chalked up the alleged gaffe to having a \u201c$4 billion rocket\u201d but \u201c$4 camera work.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The view of the rocket\u2019s launch from a commercial jetliner. <span class=\"credit\">Reddit\/loudbeatsrecords<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe whole production was craptastic,\u201d lamented another disillusioned viewer while blasting the literal smoke screen. \u201cMissed liftoff. Missed booster separation. Missed crew module separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKept cutting to the unexplained black screen,\u201d decried a third. \u201cIt had like orange clouds in the corner at one point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeriously, wtf was that,\u201d vented one commenter. \u201cOf everything, a basic animator could have created an awesome visual. Lift off!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The problems were apparently not limited to liftoff. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThey also showed the camera panning the crowd while the booster rockets separated (the only interesting thing that really happens after lift-off),\u201d said one.<\/p>\n<p>In fact the best footage of the historic moment arguably came courtesy Delta Airlines Flight 1784 that was en route from\u00a0Costa Rica\u00a0to Atlanta, Georgia when the 32-story rocket blasted off at\u00a0NASA\u2018s Kennedy Space Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/tech\/38707126\/plane-passengers-catch-artemis-ii-moon-mission-launch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Sun reported.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy cousin captured Artemis takeoff from his flight. So cool,\u201d wrote Kendall baker in an X of Artemis II <a href=\"http:\/\/My cousin captured Artemis takeoff from his flight. So cool\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rising into the sky with blinding<\/a> white flames erupting from its thrusters.<\/p>\n<p>The clip has amassed over 1 million views with commenters claiming that the clip was the \u201cthe greatest thing on the internet today\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/Better than the nasa videos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cbetter than the NASA videos.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A second video, allegedly taken from another aircraft, showed the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/darthjav\/status\/2039492970605424675\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moon-bound spacecraft arcing<\/a> across the sky, leaving a smokey rocket trail in its wake.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of writing, the Artemis II is still in high orbit above our planet as the<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/Technology\/artemis-ii-mission-timeline-10-day-journey-moon\/story?id=131572035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> crew tests the systems and manually pilots the spacecraft. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The lunar voyage will take about three days, after which the crew will circle the moon, before utilizing Earth\u2019s gravity to return home.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/02\/science\/viewers-decry-craptastic-live-coverage-of-artemis-ii-launch\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Their dreams of a perfect view went up in smoke.
