If you shoot a ground robot it doesn\u2019t feel pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Kyiv first deployed robots to the frontlines in 2024, they came in limited shapes and sizes. Now a variety of killer droids can fire shots, lay mines and launch grenades at the enemy \u2014 among other tasks that led to the record-breaking mission count in January.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>More than a hundred Russian troops even surrendered to the tin men that same month, according to Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis winter, more than 100 occupiers laid down their arms thanks to the work of unmanned units,\u201d he proudly <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/FedorovMykhailo\/status\/2030296286168002761?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the past two years, the use of robots shot up exponentially \u2014 with production increasing nearly sixfold in 2025, the fastest growing sector in Ukraine\u2019s defense technology sector.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Land robots now make up 90% of Ukrainian army logistics. <span class=\"credit\">UNITED24\/Ukrainian Government<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bots had an estimated market size of\u00a0$252 million last year, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/kse.ua\/ua\/about-the-school\/news\/ukrayinskiy-rinok-oboronnih-tehnologiy-mozhlivosti-dlya-investoriv-doslidzhennya-kse-institute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> by Kyiv School of\u00a0Economics published this week. <\/p>\n<p>They don\u2019t just fight. Since December, they\u2019ve been bringing provisions to Ukrainian soldiers in the critical region of Donetsk, which has seen some of the most intense fighting since Russia\u2019s invasion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne rolled up to the entrance of our dugout. I felt like a caveman gazing at alien technology,\u201d marveled Bambi. \u201cIt looked so futuristic.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The robots are controlled remotely by Ukrainian troops. <span class=\"credit\">Associated Press<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In fact, land robots now make up 90% of Ukrainian army logistics \u2014 delivering food, ammunition, and other supplies, instead of having humans risk their lives to do it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very difficult to move around because of enemy first-person-view drones.
