StarDream Cruises, headquartered in Malaysia, said it added a daily fuel surcharge to Asia sailings booked after March 20.<\/p>\n<p>The added cost will vary by itinerary, but it is expected to be between $19 and $26 per guest per day for\u00a0travelers age 2 and up, according to Cond\u00e9 Nast Traveler.<\/p>\n<p>Some worry that larger cruise lines may follow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone should be concerned,\u201d Tom Baker, CEO of Cruise Center, a Houston-based national seller of more than 10,000 discount cruises, told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis war is already spreading its tentacles. It\u2019s going to impact every traveler on the planet in some capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 39.6 million people worldwide are\u00a0expected to take a cruise\u00a0in 2026, according to the Cruise Lines International Association, based in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>StarDream Cruises, headquartered in Malaysia, said it added a daily fuel surcharge to Asia sailings booked after March 20. <span class=\"credit\">TNS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Oil prices\u00a0have surged more than 40% since the start of the Iran conflict, as Fox Business has reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Many booked passengers are concerned that\u00a0some <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/03\/us-news\/virgin-voyages-brilliant-lady-cruise-debuts-in-san-pedro\/\">cruise companies\u00a0are reserving<\/a> the right to add fuel surcharges, even after bookings are paid in full.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a passenger posted comments to that effect in the Facebook group Royal Caribbean Cruise Tips, Tricks and Deals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going through some paperwork for my cruise next week, and I saw it said the cruise lines reserve the right to\u00a0impose a fuel surcharge\u00a0on guests if oil prices rise, even after a booking is paid in full.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Many booked passengers are concerned that\u00a0some cruise companies\u00a0are reserving the right to add fuel surcharges, even after bookings are paid in full. <span class=\"credit\">Mary Baratto \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A commenter responded, \u201cRight or wrong, but if a\u00a0worldwide company\u00a0charges me a fuel surcharge after paying my total, that would be the last time I did business with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A different commenter said, \u201cI feel like people need to start reading the contracts and fine print.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chris Woronka, director and senior equity analyst at Deutsche Bank and based in New York City, told Fox News Digital the fine print in cruise contracts is common.<\/p>\n<div class=\"single__inline-module inline-module inline-module--newsletter aligncenter inline-module--nypostbusinessunit aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-newsletter\" data-source-unit=\"Inline Newsletter Module Morning Report\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__inner\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__title-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"inline-module__unsubmitted-title-wrapper\">\n<h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><h3 class=\"inline-module__title headline headline--combo-sm-md\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at the fine print listed on most reservations, you will find that many cruise lines have the ability to add a fuel surcharge of approximately $9 to $12 per person, per day, when the price of a barrel of oil exceeds a generally pre-defined level,\u201d Woronka said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince many cruises are purchased many months \u2014 perhaps even one year or more \u2014 in advance, the cruise operators wanted to leave themselves the flexibility to recapture a portion of the impact of\u00a0rising fuel prices\u00a0since the time the ticket was sold,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Recently, a passenger posted comments to that effect in the Facebook group Royal Caribbean Cruise Tips, Tricks and Deals. <span class=\"credit\">ZUMAPRESS.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nevertheless, two of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/04\/lifestyle\/royal-caribbeans-new-treehouse-suite-costs-200k-a-week\/\">largest cruise companies<\/a> told Fox News Digital they do not anticipate higher ticket prices or supplemental fuel surcharges in the very near future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not expect any immediate impact on ticket prices or the guest experience due to current oil market disruptions,\u201d a spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings told Fox News Digital this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A Carnival Corporation spokesperson told Fox News Digital, \u201cWe have no plans to change our current pricing model.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If surcharges are implemented \u2014 they could be temporary. A higher ticket price might stick around.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThis war is already spreading its tentacles.
