The city of Houston\u2019s official X account deleted a post referring to Good Friday as a \u201cspring holiday\u201d after backlash from government officials and others on the platform.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cDue to the Spring holiday weekend, City of Houston offices will be closed on Friday, April 3,\u201d the now-deleted post said.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cToday is Good Friday. Sunday is Easter. It isn\u2019t a \u2018Spring holiday weekend,\u2019\u201d Rep. The account has recognized Easter in previous years. The city has also posted about the Muslim holiday Ramadan.<\/span><\/p>\n Republican state Rep. Tom Oliverson called the difference in the city\u2019s posts \u201cembarrassing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBe better,\u201d Oliverson <\/span>wrote<\/span><\/a> on X. \u201cToday is Good Friday, not Spring Holiday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The city\u2019s post is still up on <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a>, with the vast majority of comments on that platform also criticizing the city\u2019s wording.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSpring Holiday\u201d is listed as an official city holiday on Houston\u2019s <\/span>calendar<\/span><\/a> that falls on Good Friday. In 2027, \u201cSpring Holiday\u201d \u2014 and Good Friday \u2014 will fall on March 26.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
