{"id":41742,"date":"2026-04-05T08:55:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T08:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41742"},"modified":"2026-04-05T08:55:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T08:55:36","slug":"kanye-west-headlining-wireless-festival-is-deeply-concerning-says-keir-starmer-kanye-west","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41742","title":{"rendered":"Kanye West headlining Wireless festival is \u2018deeply concerning\u2019, says Keir Starmer | Kanye West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Keir Starmer has said it is \u201cdeeply concerning\u201d that Kanye West, the US rapper who has made a series of antisemitic comments, is to appear at a British music festival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The prime minister joins others who have criticised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/wireless-festival\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Wireless festival<\/a> for booking the musician, also known as Ye, to headline all three nights of the forthcoming event in London.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The rapper has drawn widespread condemnation in recent years after he began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2025\/feb\/12\/kanye-west-sued-dropped-by-talent-agency-and-retail-platform-over-antisemitic-remarks\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">voicing admiration for Adolf Hitler<\/a>, and has made a series of antisemitic remarks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Last year, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2025\/jul\/11\/rubicon-festival-cancelled-kanye-west-slovakia\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">released a song called Heil Hitler<\/a>, a few months after advertising a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Starmer said: \u201cIt is deeply concerning that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/kanyewest\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Kanye West<\/a> has been booked to perform at Wireless despite his previous antisemitic remarks and celebration of Nazism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAntisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted clearly and firmly wherever it appears. The conduct of the organisers was \u201cdeeply irresponsible,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Phil Rosenberg, president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, has also said it was \u201cabsolutely the wrong decision\u201d to allow West to play.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A spokesperson for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk\/london\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">London<\/a> mayor, Sadiq Khan, said: \u201cWe are clear that the past comments and actions of this artist are offensive and wrong, and are simply not reflective of London\u2019s values.
