{"id":41754,"date":"2026-04-05T09:18:53","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T09:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41754"},"modified":"2026-04-05T09:18:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T09:18:53","slug":"nick-saban-other-athletic-leaders-laud-trumps-college-sports-executive-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41754","title":{"rendered":"Nick Saban, Other Athletic Leaders Laud Trump&#8217;s College Sports Executive Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Athletic leaders are lauding President Donald Trump\u2019s executive order aimed at college sports reform, including limiting athletes\u2019 years of eligibility and the number of times they can transfer before facing a penalty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2026\/04\/03\/trump-signs-executive-order-limiting-the-years-of-eligibility-number-of-transfers\/\">signed<\/a> the order, Urgent National Action to Save College Sport, on Friday. The order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/04\/urgent-national-action-to-save-college-sports\/\">directs<\/a> that students are eligible to play within a maximum five-year window, \u201cwith limited exceptions for military\u00a0service,\u00a0missionary\u00a0service,\u00a0and\u00a0other\u00a0periods of absence from participation that are in the public interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>It also allows for a student-athlete to transfer once during \u201cthe five-year period\u00a0with immediate playing eligibility, and one additional such time if the student-athlete obtains a four-year degree.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement obtained by Breitbart News, legendary former Alabama and Louisiana State University football head coach Nick Saban commended Trump\u2019s order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cPresident Trump\u2019s executive order today is a critical step towards restoring stability in college sports. I thank the President for his leadership on this important issue, as ensuring the long term health of college athletics should be in the interest of all Americans,\u201d Saban said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<p>National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) President Chaerlie Baker noted the order also reinforces scholarship protections, guaranteed health care coverage, and mental health services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NCAA has modernized college sports to deliver more benefits for student-athletes, and the Executive Order reinforces many of our mandatory protections \u2014 including guaranteed health care coverage, mental health services, and scholarship protections,\u201d Baker said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis action is a significant step forward, and we appreciate the Administration\u2019s interest and attention to these issues,\u201d Baker added. \u201cStabilizing college athletics for student-athletes still requires a permanent, bipartisan federal legislative solution, so we look forward to continuing to work alongside the Administration and Congress to enact targeted legislation with the support of student-athlete leaders from all three divisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Greg Sankey, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), said the order brings \u201cclarity\u201d to ensure that colleges and universities compete under similar policies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cThe establishment and enforcement of consistent national standards for college athletics remains a top priority, and President Trump\u2019s Executive Order provides important clarity to help ensure all programs operate under comparable policies,\u201d Sankey said. \u201cWe are grateful for the President\u2019s leadership and the continued, bipartisan engagement of members of the House and Senate on these key issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p>\u201cWe support House of Representatives approval of the SCORE Act and meaningful Senate consideration of similar legislation to preserve academic opportunity for student-athletes and the long-term future of college sports,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Commissioners of other top conferences voiced their support for the order as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Big Ten Conference would like to thank President Trump for his leadership and continuing efforts to protect college athletics and joins him in urging Congress to quickly pass legislation addressing the critical issues undermining its long-term stability,\u201d Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Pettiti said in a statement. \u201cConsistent with President Trump\u2019s executive order, the bipartisan SCORE Act thoughtfully addresses name, image, and likeness for student-athletes, protecting academic and athletic opportunities provided through women\u2019s and Olympic sports programs, and expands resources to support student-athletes on and off the field. We will continue to work with a broad coalition of college sports stakeholders and members of Congress to enact this legislation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFederal action is essential to protect the future of college athletics, and on behalf of the Big 12 we appreciate President Trump\u2019s commitment to advancing a solution,\u201d Big 12 Conference Commissioner\u00a0Brett Yormark said<i>. \u201c<\/i>To build on this momentum and provide long-term clarity and stability, Congress must now act. The bipartisan SCORE Act offers a comprehensive framework for many of the issues facing our industry and I look forward to continue working with President Trump and Congress to enact meaningful reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe deeply thank President Trump and his administration\u2019s ongoing commitment to protecting college athletics by issuing today\u2019s Executive Order,\u201d said Jim Phillips, the commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). \u201cFollowing the White House\u2018s College Sports Roundtable there continues to be significant momentum to preserve the athletic and academic opportunities for the next generation of student-athletes, and we appreciate the efforts.
