{"id":41794,"date":"2026-04-05T10:18:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T10:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41794"},"modified":"2026-04-05T10:18:36","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T10:18:36","slug":"military-age-males-must-ask-permission-to-leave-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41794","title":{"rendered":"Military Age Males Must Ask Permission to Leave Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Military-age men in Germany must now seek permission to leave the country for more than three months as a result of Berlin\u2019s new conscription rules.<\/p>\n<p>Following changes made to the nation\u2019s military service laws introduced earlier this year, in a bid to increase Berlin\u2019s anaemic\u00a0Bundeswehr armed forces, a regulation has come into effect, meaning that all men between the ages of 17 and 45 must receive dispensation from the military to travel abroad for more than three months.<\/p>\n<p>The text of the law, which was adopted in January, states that if such men \u201cwant to remain outside the Federal Republic of Germany beyond an approved period of time or want to extend a stay that does not require approval\u2026 beyond three months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Ministry of Defence spokesman attempted to downplay the regulation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.n-tv.de\/politik\/Maenner-bis-45-muessen-sich-laengere-Auslandsaufenthalte-genehmigen-lassen-id30681462.html\">telling<\/a> broadcaster NTV that requests are almost always approved, because \u201cmilitary service is based exclusively on voluntary activity under current law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spokesman also noted that such requirements were previously in place during the Cold War but lacked \u201cpractical relevance\u201d and were \u201cnot sanctioned\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/t\/assets\/html\/tweet-5.html#1017030495912255488\" data-btlnk=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1017030495912255488\" class=\"bnn-if-tweet\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"260\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The MoD said that the law is intended to give the Bundeswehr the ability to make \u201creliable and meaningful military records if necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>\u201cIn case of an emergency, we need to know who is staying abroad for a longer period of time,\u201d the spokesman said, adding that it eliminated the need to draw \u201cup more specific regulations for the approval of exceptions to the approval requirement, also in order to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new military service law in Germany, aimed at increasing the number of enlisted soldiers following years of poor recruiting, permitted the\u00a0Bundeswehr to send questionnaires to all 18-year-old men and women in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The questionnaires \u2014 required to be completed by all men \u2014 assess their suitability to serve in the armed forces.
