{"id":41956,"date":"2026-04-05T14:23:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T14:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41956"},"modified":"2026-04-05T14:23:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T14:23:38","slug":"heres-how-much-an-easter-basket-will-cost-you-as-food-inflation-remains-staggering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41956","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s how much an Easter basket will cost you as food inflation remains &#8216;staggering&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Easter Bunny is hopping off with your bucks.<\/p>\n<p>A typical Easter basket now costs $49.66 with the usual candy fixings and plastic eggs \u2014 up 34% from last year, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/couponfollow.com\/research\/easter-basket-inflation?t=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CouponFollow<\/a>, a digital coupon business.<\/p>\n<p>Cadbury Creme Eggs saw the biggest spike of any items included in the company\u2019s \u201cEaster Basket Inflation Index,\u201d up 57% to $5.49.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The average cost of an Easter basket is $49.66 today compared to $37 last year, according to CouponFollow. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Taking a longer view, CouponFollow found the price of a complete basket up 71% compared to five years ago, with Cadbury\u2019s super-sweet treats costing 120% more than they did in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The study conducted every two years tracked prices at Walmart, Target, Kroger and Albertsons during the week before Easter, according to Clay Cary, senior trends analyst for CouponFollow.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/18\/business\/wholesale-inflation-hits-highest-level-in-a-year-and-iran-war-is-fueling-more-fears-about-rising-prices\/\">increase in food prices<\/a> versus a handful of years ago is staggering and continues to put significant pressure on consumer spending across all income levels,\u201d Gordon Haskett retail analyst Chuck Grom told The Post on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Other Easter Basket goodies that saw price hikes included 3.5-oz. Lindt Gold Bunnies that cost $7.29 this week, compared to $5.49 at the same time last year.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>Prices for Cadbury Creme Eggs rose the most of any popular Easter candy, according to the study. <span class=\"credit\">Anne Wermiel\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A six-pack of Reese\u2019s Peanut Butter Eggs jumped nearly 40%, to $5.99; a 14-oz. package of Starburst Jellybeans was up 46%, to $4.79; and a 10-pack of Peeps went up 21%, to $3.64, according to CouponFollow.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CouponFollow said petroleum cost hikes helped the average price of a bag of 48 plastic eggs jump 52%, compared to 2021, to $3.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Chocolate Lindt 3.5-oz. bunnies spiked to $7.29 this year from $5.49 last year. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Part of the reason for candy price spikes is the soaring cost of sugar, which rose 50% over the past five years to $1.02 per pound, according to CouponFollow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Easter candy is 73.5% more expensive this year than five years ago.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A 10-pack of Peeps are 64 cents more expensive this year compared to last year. <span class=\"credit\">Christopher Sadowski<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chocolate Easter eggs have become both more expensive and shrunk in size over the past year, as The Post previously <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/02\/lifestyle\/easter-candy-prices-higher-than-ever-despite-low-cocoa-costs\/\">reported.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/29\/lifestyle\/why-more-halloween-shoppers-are-skipping-chocolate-candy-this-year\/\">Chocolate prices<\/a> have spiked due to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/03\/13\/lifestyle\/chocolate-prices-likely-to-soar-as-african-cocoa-processing-plants-cant-afford-to-buy-beans\/\">difficulties sourcing cocoa,<\/a> a big portion of which comes from West Africa where crops have been battered by too much rain, heat and crop disease \u2014 though conditions have improved recently.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not just candy that will cost consumers over Easter.<\/p>\n<p>Easter-related groceries \u2014 including ham, eggs and other kitchen staples like butter, milk, flour and sugar, along with Easter lilies \u2013 pushed the cost of Easter brunch up by 23.1% over the past five yeas to $37.36, according to CouponFollow.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/03\/business\/heres-how-much-an-easter-basket-will-cost-you-as-food-inflation-remains-staggering\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Easter Bunny is hopping off with your bucks.
