{"id":41975,"date":"2026-04-05T14:51:38","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T14:51:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41975"},"modified":"2026-04-05T14:51:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T14:51:38","slug":"student-abandons-newborn-baby-at-kwara-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=41975","title":{"rendered":"Student Abandons Newborn Baby at Kwara Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Kwara State Government has received a newborn who was abandoned by her mother identified as a student, and brought to the Ministry of Women Affairs on Friday, reiterating its commitment to protecting orphans and vulnerable children in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Opeyemi Oluwakemi, who noted that the baby was delivered on Thursday, said the newborn was brought to the ministry from Apalara Medical Hospital by an officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Medinat Garuba, and the Chief Medical Director of Apalara Hospital, Giwa Luqman.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by Iyanu Lawal, Press Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday, said that Oluwakemi further stressed that the state government will provide all the medical and physical care needed by the baby, as every child counts in the state, while also commending the good citizens who brought the baby to the ministry.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Medical Director of Apalara Hospital, Luqman, revealed that, \u201cthe baby\u2019s mother, who is a student, had earlier requested to terminate the pregnancy, adding that his counselling persuaded her to carry the pregnancy to term, but she later abandoned the baby after delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner concluded that the Child Rights Law provides for the reintegration of abandoned babies into society through fostering or adoption, adding that due process must be followed and sufficient time allowed for mothers to reconsider their decision to give up or abandon their babies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p> All rights reserved.
