This Week<\/em> on Sunday, Turner was asked by host George Stephanopoulos if it was realistic to think that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen \u201cnaturally\u201d or if it would take \u201cground troops.\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cIn any conflict, certainly, Iran is going to have some things that they\u2019re going to be able to do, during the conflict\u00a0\u2014 but, if you don\u2019t undertake the conflict, if you just step back and watch, as the Obama administration was going to do while Iran became a nuclear power, and they became North Korea, we wouldn\u2019t be looking at the Strait of Hormuz,\u201d Turner said.<\/p>\n
When asked again by Stephanopoulos if the Strait of Hormuz can \u201cbe reopened without American ground troops,\u201d Turner said he did not \u201cthink U.S. ground troops\u201d would be needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think, certainly you\u2019re seeing that even as this conflict evolves, that that is being put in place,\u201d Turner answered. \u201cI don\u2019t think U.S. ground troops are going to be necessary in any direct conflict.\u201d<\/p>\n
