The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Edo State Command, have seized 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, with a total weight of 1,378kg.\n<\/p>\n
The Edo State Commander of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a statement in Benin on Monday, adding that one suspect was arrested during the raid.\n<\/p>\n
He said a team of NDLEA officers raided a warehouse located in the Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, where the drugs were discovered and confiscated.\n<\/p>\n
Ofoyeju said the operation led to the evacuation of 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, weighing 1,378kg.<\/p>\n
He stated that a 37-year-old suspect, Roland Owie, a native of Igbanke community in Edo State, was arrested in connection with the seizure.\n<\/p>\n Speaking on the significance of the operation, Ofoyeju emphasised that the bust is a critical victory in the ongoing war against substance abuse and illicit drug trade.\n<\/p>\n \u201cThis successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression. Every kilogram seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes our society safer.\n<\/p>\n \u201cThis arrest and seizure send a clear message to all drug barons that Edo State is not a haven for illicit activities. We have zero tolerance, and our intelligence and operational capabilities are robust.\u201d\n<\/p>\n The commander commended the professionalism and diligence of his officers and urged the public to continue supporting the agency by providing useful information.\n<\/p>\n He noted that the operation, which underscores the agency\u2019s commitment to drug supply suppression, was executed based on credible intelligence.\n<\/p>\n PUNCH reported that the command last Tuesday said it seized illicit drugs worth N1.8bn in the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n Ofoyeju, who disclosed this while presenting the command\u2019s first-quarter operational scorecard in Benin City, said 18,380 kilogrammes of drugs were recovered from 104 suspected traffickers.\n<\/p>\n According to him, those arrested during various intelligence-led operations comprised 71 males and 33 females.\n<\/p>\n He explained that the 18,380kg of drugs recovered included 5,825kg seized and 12,556kg of cannabis destroyed on 10 farms covering 5.02260 hectares.\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
