{"id":43584,"date":"2026-04-07T07:06:42","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T07:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=43584"},"modified":"2026-04-07T07:06:42","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T07:06:42","slug":"dhs-says-self-deportation-numbers-hit-over-72000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=43584","title":{"rendered":"DHS Says Self-Deportation Numbers Hit over 72,000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">The Department of Homeland (DHS) shared that nearly 35,000 illegal aliens chose to go home through the no-penalty exit of \u201cvoluntary departure\u201d last year.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the Department of Justice (DOJ) shows that\u00a0in \u201cfiscal year 2025, more than 34,707 people nationwide were granted voluntary departure,\u201d representing a fourfold increase from the\u00a0\u201c8,663 the year before,\u201d NBC10 News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/investigations\/facing-crackdown-some-immigrants-choose-to-leave-but-struggle-with-the-process\/4379138\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a document that was \u201cshared internally within DHS and reviewed by CNN\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/03\/18\/us\/dhs-self-deport-project-homecoming-invs\">revealed<\/a> that as of March 2026, roughly 72,000 illegal migrants had chosen to self-deport under the Trump administration. Out of this number, roughly 37,281 migrants who agreed to voluntary deportation \u201cwere already\u201d in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).<\/p>\n<p>CNN also reported that a \u201csworn statement of an executive from Salus Worldwide Solutions\u201d revealed that as of the beginning of December 2025, the Trump administration \u201chad authorized nearly 35,000 stipends to individuals who had registered as self-deported\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As of December 1, the government had authorized nearly 35,000 stipends to individuals who had registered as self-deported, although only 17,406 had been completed at the time, according to the sworn statement of an executive from Salus Worldwide Solutions, which holds a three-year contract to run Project Homecoming.<\/p>\n<p>A senior official for the Department of Homeland Security offered similar numbers in a separate sworn statement that month. In addition to more than 38,380 who had voluntarily left the US under the program, nearly 28,600 others were in \u201cvarious stages awaiting departure,\u201d said Benjamine Huffman in his capacity as acting undersecretary for management at DHS.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a post on X, DHS shared a video from NBC10 News, which highlighted how\u00a0\u201ctens of thousands more\u201d illegal migrants have used the app through Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to return to their home countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cThe number of illegal aliens wisely choosing to use CBP Home is skyrocketing,\u201d DHS wrote. \u201cIf you are in our nation illegally, download the app NOW to get a free flight home PLUS a $2600 exit bonus.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/t\/assets\/html\/tweet-5.html#2041213463658139925\" data-btlnk=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DHSgov\/status\/2041213463658139925\" class=\"bnn-if-tweet\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"260\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>NBC10 News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/investigations\/facing-crackdown-some-immigrants-choose-to-leave-but-struggle-with-the-process\/4379138\/\">spoke<\/a> with a family who \u201csettled in the South Jersey area\u201d after illegally entering the U.S. in 2022. The father, Luis, was arrested in December and \u201csent to an immigration detention center in Mississippi\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The family, whose names we are withholding because of their undocumented status, settled in the South Jersey area. They said they obtained work permits while they sought asylum through immigration court. Luis worked as a butcher at a local grocery store and his wife at a local restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>In late December, Luis took a different route to work in hopes of avoiding the ICE agents he had previously encountered on Federal Street in Camden. But as he was two blocks away from the grocery store, ICE officers pulled him onto a van and arrested him.<\/p>\n<p>He was sent to an immigration detention center in Mississippi.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Luis\u2019s wife expressed that her husband \u201cneeds to go back to his country,\u201d adding that she does not want him \u201csuffering.\u201d She also added that her husband\u2019s \u201carrest has taken an emotional and financial toll\u201d on her family, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>One person, Jaya Ramji-Nogales, who works as an immigration law professor at Temple University, expressed that \u201ca lot\u201d of illegal migrants were choosing to self-deport. Ramji-Nogales also noted that \u201cthere are a lot of hoops to jump through\u201d even when migrants opt to voluntarily self-deport.<\/p>\n<p>Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2025\/03\/29\/coyotes-are-smuggling-migrants-out-united-states\/\">reported<\/a> in March 2025 that people were reporting an increasing number of illegal aliens smuggling themselves out of the country. One person, journalist Alfredo Corchado, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/6FkLmElfknM?t=886s\">told<\/a> an \u201caudience at the Council on Foreign Relations\u201d that illegal aliens were being offered \u201cpackages\u201d to be smuggled out of the U.S.:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>[Coyotes] are now offering packages where [migrant] people can go back home \u2026. [If] you want to go home, or you want to go back to Honduras, or maybe you don\u2019t want to go back to Honduras because it\u2019s too dangerous. [Or] you don\u2019t want to go to Guatemala, but maybe you want to go to Costa Rica, and so they\u2019re offering these [smuggling] packages where you can just go back home.
