{"id":44095,"date":"2026-04-07T19:43:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T19:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=44095"},"modified":"2026-04-07T19:43:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T19:43:02","slug":"only-four-in-ten-republicans-believe-nato-membership-aids-u-s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=44095","title":{"rendered":"Only Four in Ten Republicans Believe NATO Membership Aids U.S."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">Roughly four in ten Republicans and GOP-leaning independents believe the United States benefits from NATO membership, according to a poll released Monday.<\/p>\n<p>A Pew Research Center poll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2026\/04\/06\/republicans-have-become-less-likely-to-say-nato-membership-benefits-the-us\/\">found<\/a> that 38 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents believe that American membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) benefits the United States. This is a 17-percent drop from 2021, when 55 percent of Republicans believed that NATO membership aided America.<\/p>\n<p>Now, 60 percent of Republicans believe the United States benefits not too much or not at all from being part of the alliance with European countries. This marks the first time that a majority of Republicans have had such a dismal view of America\u2019s membership in NATO.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, 59 percent of those polled believe that NATO helps the United States, and 82 percent of Democrats also believe that NATO helps the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The survey of Americans\u2019 view of NATO was conducted as President Donald Trump has said he was strongly considering withdrawing America from NATO.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cOh yes, I would say [it\u2019s] beyond reconsideration. I was\u00a0never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/world-news\/2026\/04\/01\/donald-trump-strongly-considering-pulling-us-out-of-nato\/\">said<\/a> in an interview in early April.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>Pew wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey also finds that most Americans (63%) are not confident that Trump can make good decisions when it comes to working effectively with NATO.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats to be very or somewhat confident that Trump can make good decisions when it comes to working effectively with NATO. Roughly six-in-ten Republicans (62%) say this, compared with 11% of Democrats.
