The 2026 Oscars<\/a> season sure felt long, but it can now be seen as a primer for what\u2019s to come in 2027 and 2028.<\/p>\n

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC shared on Tuesday the dates for the next two Oscar telecasts before the show moves to YouTube in 2029. (And from Hollywood\u2019s Dolby Theatre to what\u2019s currently known as L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

The 99th Oscars will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027 \u2014 just one day off from this year\u2019s March 15 show! The 100th Oscars, and the swan song airing on ABC for now, will take place on Sunday, March 5, 2028. The shows will air live at 7 p.m. ET \/ 4 p.m. PT on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.<\/p>\n

For comparison, the 2025 Oscars aired on March 2, and the show has not been held earlier than that since before the pandemic. The 2020 Academy Awards<\/a> telecast, when \u201cParasite\u201d won Best Picture, aired on February 9.<\/em> This year\u2019s ratings, at 17.9 million viewers<\/a>, were the lowest since 2022 but comparatively stable among the post-lockdown-edition shows.<\/p>\n

The Academy did not reveal the date for the 101st show set to air live on YouTube<\/a>. Those conversations will be had with the video-sharing platform, but so far, we have no idea what the YouTube Oscars will look like.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Academy also shared key dates for the overall awards calendar leading up to next year\u2019s 99th Oscars. (And, let\u2019s face it, that awards season is about to start in just over a month at the 2026 Cannes Film<\/a> Festival.)<\/p>\n

Fun fact for all hoping the bottleneck of industry travel and coverage circa the Oscars could be relieved: Once again, the 2027 Oscar nominations announcement will take place on the opening day of the Sundance Film Festival, which begins in Boulder, Colorado, next year. We\u2019re curious to see if SXSW is once again held on Oscar weekend.<\/p>\n
