Meryl Streep, while promoting her Devil Wears Prada<\/em>\u00a0sequel,\u00a0attacked First Lady Melania Trump\u2019s fashion, and condemned what she called a \u201cdestabilizing\u201d of women in power. \u201cThey have to bare arms on TV while men are covered in a suit,\u201d the actress\u00a0said.<\/p>\n In a recent\u00a0interview<\/a> with Streep, long-time Vogue<\/em> editor-in-chief Anna Wintour brought up the First Lady\u2019s fashion, stating, \u201cTo be fair, Melania Trump also always looks like herself when she dresses,\u201d to which the\u00a0Devil Wears Prada<\/em> star replied, \u201cI have so many thoughts about this.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI think the most\u2026 powerful message that our current first lady sent was in the coat that said \u2018I Really Don\u2019t Care, Do U?\u2019 when she was going to see migrant children who were incarcerated,\u201d Streep continued, referring to a nearly decade-old story highlighting Melania Trump\u2019s June 2018 attire.<\/p>\n \u201cAll\u00a0dress is about expressing yourself, but we\u2019re also subject to larger historical and political sweeps of expectation,\u201d the\u00a076-year-old actress added.<\/p>\n Melania Trump senior adviser Marc Beckman pushed back on Streep\u2019s remarks, telling Breitbart News that the actress\u2019s \u201ccriticism of First Lady Melania Trump\u2019s 2018 jacket in\u00a0Vogue\u00a0<\/em>is misplaced \u2014 and outdated.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe First Lady\u00a0has already addressed and debunked the narrative in her memoir,\u00a0MELANIA<\/em><\/a>,\u201d\u00a0Beckman added. \u201cThe real\u00a0story is not a jacket from years ago \u2014 it is First Lady Melania Trump\u2019s leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n The First Lady\u2019s senior advisor told Breitbart News:<\/p>\n Since the start of the 47th presidential administration, First Lady Melania Trump has led four reunifications of Ukrainian and Russian children with their families; bolstered Fostering the Future, her national university network supporting individuals from the foster care community; built Fostering the Future Together, a global coalition advancing education and technology for children; delivered a \u201cPeace Through Education\u201d address at the UN Security Council; championed the Take It Down Act to combat non-consensual AI-generated intimate imagery; secured $30 million for housing for individuals who aged out of foster care, and advanced an Executive Order to support America\u2019s foster youth.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n In her interview with\u00a0Vogue<\/em>, Streep then segued from Melania Trump to female fashion in general, saying, \u201cI\u2019m stunned at how women in power have to have bare arms on television while men are covered in shirts and ties or a suit.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s an apology built into women. They have to show their smallness,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s compensatory: The advancements of women in the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of this one have been destabilizing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s as if women have to say, \u2018I\u2019m little.
