\n\tStephen Soderbergh has no intention of reviving \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo<\/a>\u201d under Disney\u2019s new leadership. During an interview with \u201cThe Playlist\u201d<\/a> on the press tour for his latest directorial effort, \u201cThe Christophers,\u201d the filmmaker said \u201cnope\u201d when asked if he was trying to revive the movie and added: \u201cLook, if it was gonna happen, it would have happened. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAdam Driver<\/a> revealed the existence of \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d in an October 2025 interview with the\u00a0Associated Press<\/a>, explaining he had been developing a movie to revive Ben Solo\/Kylo Ren movie for two years with Soderbergh. Then Disney executives pulled the plug on them.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt was strictly Adam saying, \u2018I think there\u2019s still somewhere to go with this character.\u2019 That\u2019s how it started,\u201d Soderbergh told The Playlist. \u201cOtherwise, I never in a million years would have found myself in that universe again\u2026 I don\u2019t regret one minute of the time we spent working on that. I felt the work was good. It\u2019s just good for you to be in that room and working on it. It\u2019s like CrossFit\u2014it\u2019s good for you. It\u2019ll have a residual effect that will be unexpected at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDriver loved \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d script, telling the AP last year that it was the \u201cstandard\u201d of what a \u201cStar Wars<\/a>\u201d movie \u201cshould be\u201d and comparing it to the \u201chandmade and character-driven\u201d feel of \u201cThe Empire Strikes Back.\u201d He revealed that Lucasfilm execs Kennedy, Dave Filoni and Cary Beck\u00a0backed the project until Disney shut it down.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea,\u201d Driver recalled. \u201cThey totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no. They didn\u2019t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tSince the project was axed, Soderbergh has moved onward and is not actively trying to get it made even with the new leadership at Disney and Lucasfilm. Kennedy, who supported \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo,\u201d stepped down as Lucasfilm president in January after a 14-year run guiding the studio. Dave Filoni is now in charge as co-president and chief creative officer. Bob Iger, who reportedly was involved in the movie\u2019s axing, is also no longer at Disney, with Josh D\u2019Amaro now serving as CEO. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cAs soon as it became apparent, \u2018OK, not gonna happen,\u2019 I sat down and started writing [something else],\u201d Soderbergh told The Playlist. \u201cIt\u2019s like, \u2018OK, new scenario, let\u2019s get cracking.\u2019 At a certain point, it\u2019s like complaining about the weather. You just gotta keep moving\u2026 Look, if it was gonna happen, it would have happened. It\u2019s that simple.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn an\u00a0interview with BK Mag<\/a> in February, the Oscar-winning Soderbergh said \u201cwe were all frustrated\u201d when Disney executives pulled the plug on \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo.\u201d He also revealed the studio axed the movie before even hearing how much it would cost.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019d kind of made the movie in my head, and just felt bad that nobody else was going to get to see it,\u201d Soderbergh said at the time. \u201cI thought the conversation was strictly going to be a practical one\u2014where they go, what is this going to cost? And I had a really good answer for that. But it never even got to that point. It\u2019s insane. We\u2019re all very disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDriver and Soderbergh\u2019s interviews discussing \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d have mobilized \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans on social media into calling for Disney to reverse its decision and put \u201cThe Hunt for Ben Solo\u201d back in development. A group of \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans even\u00a0paid for a plane\u00a0<\/a>to fly a banner reading \u201cSave \u2018The Hunt for Ben Solo\u2019\u201d over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
