Bangladesh\u2019s foreign minister met his Indian counterpart in New Delhi on Wednesday, the most senior visit by a Dhaka envoy since the 2024 revolution<\/a> toppled India\u2019s old ally, Sheikh Hasina.<\/p>\n Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman is taking part in a \u201cgoodwill visit\u201d, Bangladesh\u2019s state news agency BSS<\/em> said, but added that issues of \u201cextradition, trade, water sharing and border security\u201d would be discussed.<\/p>\n Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar visited Dhaka in December to attend the funeral of former leader Khaleda Zia<\/a>, the mother of the prime minister elected in February, Tarique Rahman.<\/p>\n Jaishankar said he had been \u201cpleased to host\u201d Khalilur Rahman, saying in a statement that they had discussed \u201cstrengthening our bilateral relationship\u201d, without giving further details.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Relations have improved since Tarique Rahman, leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, won a landslide election victory<\/a>, taking over from the interim administration that had led the country of 170 million people since Hasina was ousted.<\/p>\n Hasina fled to India, where she has remained in hiding, straining relations between Dhaka and New Delhi.<\/p>\n Bangladesh has repeatedly requested<\/a> Hasina\u2019s extradition. She was sentenced to death<\/a> in absentia in November for orchestrating a deadly crackdown on the uprising.<\/p>\n Bangladesh was also expected to seek greater energy supplies from India, as it grapples with the impact of the Middle East war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
