{"id":47105,"date":"2026-04-10T23:23:02","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:23:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=47105"},"modified":"2026-04-10T23:23:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-10T23:23:02","slug":"survivors-of-epsteins-abuse-accuse-melania-trump-of-shifting-burden-on-to-victims-melania-trump","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=47105","title":{"rendered":"Survivors of Epstein\u2019s abuse accuse Melania Trump of \u2018shifting burden\u2019 on to victims | Melania Trump"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">More than a dozen survivors of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/jeffrey-epstein\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s<\/a> abuse have accused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/melania-trump\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Melania Trump<\/a> of \u201cshifting the burden\u201d on to them after she called on Congress to hold public hearings with victims of Epstein\u2019s abuse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cSurvivors of Jeffrey Epstein have already shown extraordinary courage by coming forward, filing reports, and giving testimony,\u201d said a group of 13 people and the brother and sister of the late Virginia Giuffre, who was one of the most vocal Epstein accusers, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Rep_Stansbury\/status\/2042439530565750899\/photo\/1\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">statement<\/a>. \u201cAsking more of them now is a deflection of responsibility not justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Their response came after the first lady delivered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/apr\/09\/melania-trump-epstein-speech-puzzle\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">surprise statement<\/a> in which she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/apr\/09\/melania-trump-jeffrey-epstein\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">denied<\/a> she ever had a relationship with Epstein and his accomplice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ghislaine-maxwell\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>. Her senior adviser, Marc Beckman, told<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/melania-trump-says-she-never-had-relationship-with-epstein-2026-04-09\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\"> Reuters<\/a> that she \u201cspoke out now because enough is enough. The lies must stop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In an interview <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/10\/us\/politics\/trump-melania-epstein.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">with the New York Times<\/a> on Friday, the president said he hadn\u2019t known what the first lady was planning to speak about in her statement, but said that she had wanted to address questions about her connections with Epstein. \u201cI didn\u2019t know what the statement was,\u201d he said, adding \u201cshe had a right to talk about it\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">During her statement, the first lady also urged Congress to hold public hearings and take sworn testimony from survivors of Epstein\u2019s crimes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In their statement on Thursday evening, the group of Epstein survivors said the first lady \u201cis now shifting the burden on to survivors under politicized conditions that protect those with power: the Department of Justice, law enforcement, prosecutors, and the Trump administration, which has still not fully complied with the Epstein Files Transparency Act\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cIt also diverts attention from Pam Bondi, who must answer for withheld files and the exposure of survivors\u2019 identities,\u201d they said. \u201cThose failures continue to put lives at risk while shielding enablers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cSurvivors have done their part,\u201d the statement concluded. \u201cNow it\u2019s time for those in power to do theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Earlier this week, the Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2026\/apr\/08\/pam-bondi-house-hearing-epstein-files\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">said<\/a> that Bondi would not comply with a subpoena to appear next week for a scheduled deposition before the House oversight and government reform committee to answer questions about the justice department\u2019s handling of the investigation into Epstein and its release of the Epstein files.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a separate statement on Thursday, Maria and Annie Farmer, two survivors of Epstein\u2019s abuse, said that \u201cwe can\u2019t speak for other survivors, but what we want is accountability, transparency, and justice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThe federal government has long mismanaged the Epstein investigation by repeatedly ignoring survivors, violating their privacy, and refusing to release the remaining records held by the Department of Justice \u2013 including my complete FBI records from 1996,\u201d they said. \u201cIf the federal government is truly committed to supporting survivors, it would ask us what we want and should follow the facts wherever they may lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment in response to the survivors\u2019 statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Marina Lacerda, one of the survivors who signed Thursday\u2019s group statement, also posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DW7hH6PiT66\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">video<\/a> on social media, where she said: \u201cWe\u2019re supposed to testify in front of Congress under oath? For what? Please tell us the reason why. Will it change anything? What\u2019s next?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Asked if she would like the first lady to get in touch with her and her fellow survivors to find out their thoughts and feelings about what would be the next step \u201con the road for justice\u201d, Phillips answered: \u201cYeah, wouldn\u2019t that be the next step for her? Why would you make a statement like that and then not do anything?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Phillips urged the first lady to \u201ctake the next step\u201d, adding: \u201cIf you want to see justice or accountability, and so do all the survivors and the American people, what\u2019s the next step there?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/i\/status\/2042678407222202706\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">an interview<\/a> on Fox News on Friday, James Comer, the Republican US representative who chairs the House oversight committee, said that he has \u201calways planned on having hearings with the victims\u201d, adding: \u201cMy attorneys on the oversight committee have been communicating on a constant basis for months with the attorneys representing Epstein victims. There are some victims who are willing to come in.
