{"id":47379,"date":"2026-04-11T06:21:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:21:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=47379"},"modified":"2026-04-11T06:21:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T06:21:23","slug":"daniel-bwala-reveals-throat-surgery-after-al-jazeera-intervi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=47379","title":{"rendered":"Daniel Bwala reveals throat surgery after Al Jazeera intervi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has revealed that he recently underwent throat surgery shortly after a widely discussed interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan of Al Jazeera.\n<\/p>\n<p>Bwala made the disclosure during an appearance on News Central\u2019s programme, 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, aired on Friday, where he also addressed reactions to the interview and criticism from online groups.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEight days after the interview with Mehdi Hasan, I underwent surgery on my throat. I don\u2019t know whether it is the \u2018Obidient\u2019 people that threw that African thing, but in any case, I\u2019m back and strong,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>He criticised a segment of social media users he described as \u201cObidients,\u201d alleging that they prioritise political loyalty over national interest.<\/p>\n<p><amp-video-iframe src=\"https:\/\/360playvid.info\/slidepleer\/videoIframe.html?fn=s1184s\" width=\"16\" height=\"9\" layout=\"responsive\" dock=\"#pv-dock-slot\" style=\" overflow: visible !important;\"> <\/amp-video-iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know the environment I come from; it\u2019s an environment where there exists a species of \u2018Trojans\u2019 of social media called the \u2018Obidient,\u2019 who do not care about the national interest or the security of Nigeria and will do everything possible to achieve the aim of their hero, no matter the cost,\u201d Bwala stated.\n<\/p>\n<p>Speaking further, the presidential aide defended his performance during the interview, describing Hasan\u2019s approach as adversarial.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Mehdi Hasan did was what we call opposition-style journalism, where you play the role of the opposition. In that interview, Mehdi sought to elicit information from me to discredit the government, but he could not,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bwala explained that much of the interview focused on his past criticisms of the Tinubu administration while he was in the opposition, which he acknowledged but sought to move past. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the first 15 minutes, he started by asking me to answer questions relating to things I said about President Tinubu when I was in the opposition.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepeatedly, I admitted to them \u2014 I even said I had said more than what he mentioned \u2014 but I asked that we move on to the purpose of the interview,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>He added that he cautioned the interviewer against persisting on the same line of questioning.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe continued doing it, and at a point, I warned him that if he kept going in that direction, I would deny it.
