New York Mets color commentator Keith Hernandez revealed on Friday night that he will have back surgery that will cause him to miss some upcoming broadcasts.<\/p>\n
During Friday night\u2019s PIX 11 broadcast of the Mets\u2019 game against the Athletics at Citi Field, Hernandez explained that he\u2019ll have back surgery on Tuesday and will miss next week\u2019s road trip for the Mets vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cTuesday morning (for back surgery),\u201d Hernandez explained. \u201cIt can\u2019t happen soon enough. I\u2019ll be the first one under the knife. And I\u2019ll feel better, hopefully. And I\u2019m shooting to come back for the Rockies series over the weekend at home here. I know you don\u2019t think I\u2019ll make it. I\u2019m telling you, I\u2019ll be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

That series vs. the Colorado Rockies will begin Friday, April 24, at Citi Field. After returning from their road trip, the Mets will host a series vs the Minnesota Twins ahead of that Rockies series.<\/p>\n
Hernandez missed some Mets broadcasts earlier this month<\/a> due to the back issue and was replaced by Todd Zeile<\/a> on a road trip. The back pain was described as \u201cexcruciating\u201d by Hernandez before he missed time.<\/p>\n

Hernandez is a Mets legend, both for his playing days as a star first baseman and for being one of the top analysts in baseball ( and for being a Seinfeld<\/em> star<\/a>).<\/p>\n
