Francisco Lindor doesn\u2019t have any answers for his puzzling play.<\/p>\n

He doesn\u2019t have any excuses, either.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not missing most of spring training due to a hamate bone injury. It\u2019s not the absence of Juan Soto, adding pressure on the shortstop.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not sure. I feel like I\u2019m locked in,\u201d he said after the Mets\u2019 11-6 loss to the A\u2019s<\/a> at Citi Field Saturday, their fourth straight. \u201cIt just happens. I\u2019ve got to be better.\u201d<\/p>\n

The defeat highlighted Lindor\u2019s latest mental mistake. In the second inning, he failed to cover second on a potential double-play ball, allowing the A\u2019s to tack on a run. Rather than cover the bag, Lindor pursued the ball up the middle. Second baseman Marcus Semien fielded it, and with nobody to throw to, stepped on second for the force.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went after the ball and Marcus was there,\u201d said Lindor, batting just .167 on the season without an RBI. \u201cI didn\u2019t make it to second base. We didn\u2019t turn the double play. Senga could\u2019ve gotten out of the inning right there and I didn\u2019t help him.<\/p>\n
