{"id":48466,"date":"2026-04-12T10:12:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T10:12:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=48466"},"modified":"2026-04-12T10:12:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T10:12:09","slug":"iran-says-time-for-us-to-decide-whether-it-can-earn-our-trust-after-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=48466","title":{"rendered":"Iran says time for US to decide \u2018whether it can earn our trust\u2019 after talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/04\/1214173082f850b.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After their face-to-face <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990937\/us-iran-explore-path-forward-as-talks-go-into-third-round\">talks<\/a> yielded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990743\/dar-urges-us-iran-to-uphold-commitment-to-ceasefire-as-talks-conclude-without-deal\">no agreement<\/a>, Iran\u2019s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Sunday said it was now time for the United States to decide whether it can \u201cearn\u201d Tehran\u2019s trust.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, written in Persian, Ghalibaf said: \u201cAmerica has understood our logic and principles, and now it\u2019s time for it to decide whether it can earn our trust or not?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghalibaf, who led the Iranian delegation, recalled that before the negotiations, he \u201cemphasised that we have the necessary good faith and will, but due to the experiences of the two previous wars, we have no trust in the opposing side\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy colleagues on the Iranian delegation Minaab168 raised forward-looking initiatives, but the opposing side ultimately failed to gain the trust of the Iranian delegation in this round of negotiations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mb_ghalibaf\/status\/2043251936518901869\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mb_ghalibaf\/status\/2043251936518901869\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The Iranian parliament speaker went on to state: \u201cWe certainly consider diplomacy of authority to be another method, alongside military struggle, for achieving the rights of the Iranian people, and we will not stop for a moment from trying to consolidate the achievements of the 40 days of Iranian national defence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghalibaf also thanked the efforts of \u201cour friendly and brotherly country\u201d Pakistan, for facilitating the process of the negotiations, sending his regards to Pakistanis.<\/p>\n<p>Remarking that Iran was a \u201cbody with 90 million souls\u201d, Ghalibaf expressed his gratitude to the people of Iran who, \u201cfollowing the advice of the Supreme Leader and by taking to the streets, supported their children and sent us on our way with their blessings\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my colleagues in these intense 21-hour negotiations, I say: well done, may God strengthen you. Long live and enduring be our dear Iran!\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mb_ghalibaf\/status\/2043251953405161480\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mb_ghalibaf\/status\/2043251953405161480\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Ghalibaf\u2019s statement comes after a historic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990937\/us-iran-explore-path-forward-as-talks-go-into-third-round\">direct dialogue<\/a> between Iran and the United States \u2014 known as the Islamabad Talks \u2014 ended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990743\/dar-urges-us-iran-to-uphold-commitment-to-ceasefire-as-talks-conclude-without-deal\">without an agreement<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Delegations from the two sides, with Ghalibaf leading the Iranian side and US Vice President JD Vance leading Washington\u2019s effort, had met in Islamabad on Saturday for talks mediated by Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990743\/dar-urges-us-iran-to-uphold-commitment-to-ceasefire-as-talks-conclude-without-deal#:~:text=The%20trilateral%20talks%2C%20which%20commenced%20on%20Saturday%20afternoon%2C%20saw\">trilateral talks<\/a>, which commenced on Saturday afternoon, saw the US and Iranian delegations engage in discussions over three sessions, with teams of experts from the two parties exchanging written texts after each session.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full sm:w-1\/2  media--right    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1991060\/this-likely-isnt-over-journalists-analysts-react-to-stalemate-in-us-iran-talks\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--newskitlink  \">    <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>After discussions that went on for at least 21 hours, Vance held a press conference in the federal capital on Sunday morning, announcing that \u201cunfortunately, we were unable to make any headway\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Vance said both parties \u201chad a number of substantive discussions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, he added, \u201cThe bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that\u2019s bad news for Iran much more than it\u2019s bad news for the USA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The US vice president said Tehran\u2019s leadership had \u201cchosen not to accept our terms\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1990743\/dar-urges-us-iran-to-uphold-commitment-to-ceasefire-as-talks-conclude-without-deal#:~:text=%E2%80%98No%20agreement%20expected%20from%20single%20session%E2%80%99\">remarks<\/a> carried by Iranian state media, said the delegations reached \u201cunderstanding\u201d on several issues. The two delegations departed Islamabad on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"pakistan-australia-urge-ceasefire-continuation\" href=\"#pakistan-australia-urge-ceasefire-continuation\" class=\"heading-permalink\" aria-hidden=\"true\" title=\"Permalink\"><\/a>Pakistan, Australia urge ceasefire continuation<\/h2>\n<p>In his statement on the talks\u2019 conclusion, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/v\">urged<\/a> all parties to remain committed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1989584\/trump-stops-bombing-iran-after-conversations-with-pm-shehbaz-sharif-field-marshal-asim-munir-iran-us-agree-to-two-week-ceasefire\">two-week ceasefire<\/a> agreed on April 8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative that the parties continue to uphold their commitment to the ceasefire,\u201d Dar said in a press conference in Islamabad shortly after Vance\u2019s media briefing.<\/p>\n<p>Dar expressed Pakistan\u2019s readiness to continue to play its role to \u201cfacilitate engagement and dialogue\u201d between the US and Iran.<\/p>\n<p>He hoped that both sides would \u201ccontinue with the positive spirit to achieve durable peace and prosperity for the entire region and beyond\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dar recalled that he, along with Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, \u201chelped mediate several rounds of intense and constructive negotiations between the two sides, that continued through the last 24 hours and also urged a continuation of the Middle East ceasefire after US-Iran talks ended with no deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe priority now must be to continue the ceasefire and return to negotiations,\u201d Wong said in a statement, adding it was \u201cdisappointing that the Islamabad Talks between the United States and Iran have ended without agreement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to want to see a swift resolution to this conflict,\u201d Wong was quoted as saying by <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"link--external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/asia-pacific\/australia-disappointed-as-no-deal-reached-after-us-iran-talks-in-islamabad\/3902679\"><em>Anadolu<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny escalation in the
