{"id":48627,"date":"2026-04-12T14:16:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T14:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=48627"},"modified":"2026-04-12T14:16:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T14:16:09","slug":"trump-says-us-iran-talks-yielded-progress-on-most-points-but-no-nuclear-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=48627","title":{"rendered":"Trump says US-Iran talks yielded progress on \u2018most points\u2019 but no nuclear agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dawn.com\/large\/2026\/04\/12191124a3d35bf.webp\" \/><\/p>\n<p>US President Donald Trump on Sunday said talks with Iran in Islamabad had yielded progress on \u201cmost points\u201d but failed to secure agreement on Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme, warning that Washington would move to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s statement came hours after the US delegation left Islamabad without reaching an agreement with Iran during the Islamabad Talks.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy statement, Trump said the nearly 20-hour meeting had gone \u201cwell\u201d overall, but stressed that the \u201conly point that really mattered\u201d \u2014 Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions \u2014 remained unresolved.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  w-full  w-full  media--left    media--uneven  media--stretch\" data-original-src=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RapidResponse47\/status\/2043320740141748369\">\n<div class=\"media__item  media__item--twitter  \"><span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RapidResponse47\/status\/2043320740141748369\"><\/a>\n    <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Trump further said he had been fully debriefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner on the meeting held in Islamabad, which he said took place under the leadership of Pakistan\u2019s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.<\/p>\n<p>He described the Pakistani leadership as \u201cextraordinary\u201d, adding that they had thanked him for what he claimed was his role in preventing a potential war with India that could have cost millions of lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been fully debriefed by Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, on the meeting that took place in Islamabad through the kind and very competent leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan. They are very extraordinary men, and continuously thank me for saving 30 to 50 million lives in what would have been a horrendous War with India. I always appreciate hearing that \u2014 The amount of Humanity spoken of is incomprehensible,\u201d said the US president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn many ways, the points that were agreed to are better than us continuing our Military Operations to conclusion, but all of those points don\u2019t matter compared to allowing Nuclear Power to be in the hands of such volatile, difficult, unpredictable people,\u201d said Trump in the Truth Social post.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said his representatives became \u201cvery friendly and respectful\u201d towards their Iranian counterparts during the prolonged talks, despite deep differences between the two sides.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Iranian officials, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi and Ali Bagheri, they remained \u201cunyielding\u201d on what he described as the most important issue \u2014 Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme.<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated that Iran would \u201cnever have a nuclear weapon\u201d, describing its stance as unyielding despite what he termed substantive discussions between both sides.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said the United States Navy would begin the process of blockading vessels entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz, citing concerns over maritime security and alleging that Iran had threatened shipping in the waterway.
