The top of the scoreboard at the 2026 Masters Tournament is significantly more crowded heading into the final round on Sunday, April 12. But despite losing his historic Masters lead<\/a>, Rory McIlroy<\/strong> said he\u2019s still \u201ccomfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some fans may argue he\u2019s a bit too<\/em> comfortable.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d like to think that I\u2019ll play a little bit freer and I\u2019ll play like I\u2019ve already got a green jacket, which I do,\u201d said the reigning Masters champion<\/a> after the third round on Saturday, April 11. \u201cSometimes I maybe just have to remind myself of that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI think, as well, that the stakes in terms of the pairing will be just a little bit easier, and the atmosphere out there will be a little bit easier. So, yeah, I\u2019m not worried about that at all. I wish I was a few shots better off, but I\u2019m comfortable. I played with Cam [Young]<\/strong> the first two days, playing with him again [Sunday] and I think it\u2019s a comfortable group for both of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Masters reigning champion Rory McIlroy spent the first two rounds of the 2026 tournament paired with 18-year-old Mason Howell \u2014 and left the young golfer with some sound advice. \u201cHopefully he saw that you don\u2019t have to be perfect to shoot good scores,\u201d McIlroy said to reporters after the second round of The Masters [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

McIlroy\u2019s comments rubbed a few golf fans the wrong way, with some commenting on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis statement from Rory McIlroy after blowing a historic 6-shot lead, comes across as wildly arrogant & has a mentality of \u2018one Masters championship is enough for me,\u2019\u201d said one user on X<\/a>. \u201cTiger Woods would never answer a question like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
