{"id":49761,"date":"2026-04-13T18:52:59","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=49761"},"modified":"2026-04-13T18:52:59","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T18:52:59","slug":"judge-dismisses-trumps-defamation-suit-against-wsj-potus-to-refile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=49761","title":{"rendered":"Judge Dismisses Trump&#8217;s Defamation Suit Against WSJ; POTUS to Refile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">A federal judge dismissed on Monday Donald Trump\u2019s defamation lawsuit against the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> for an article last summer claiming he sent Jeffrey Epstein a lewd birthday letter in 2003, but the President\u2019s legal team is set to refile it.<\/p>\n<p>As Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/trumps-lawsuit-against-wall-street-journal-over-epstein-story-dismissed-now-2026-04-13\/\">reported<\/a>, Darrin Gayles, a U.S. district judge for Florida\u2019s Southern District, dismissed the suit, saying it did not rise to \u201cactual malice\u201d standards for public figures alleging defamation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__full_width__kCIGb body-module__small_body__gOmDf article-body-module__paragraph__Ts-yF\">\n<p>The judge wrote that the Journal\u2019s reporters reached out to Trump for comment beforehand, and printed his denial. That allowed readers to decide for \u200bthemselves what to conclude, cutting against Trump\u2019s assertion that the newspaper acted with actual \u200bmalice, the judge said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In his lawsuit, Trump called the alleged birthday greeting \u201c<a class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/litigation\/trump-asks-swift-deposition-murdoch-epstein-defamation-case-2025-07-28\/\">fake<\/a>\u201d and sought $10 billion for what he called damage to his reputation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>News Corp\u2019s asset Dow Jones, the <em>Journal<\/em>\u2018s publisher, and News Corp itself defended the accuracy of \u200bthe July 17, 2025, \u200barticle, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement obtained by Breitbart News, Trump\u2019s legal team said it would refile the suit by the April 27 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump will follow Judge Gayles\u2019s ruling and guidance to refile this powerhouse lawsuit against the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> and all of the other Defendants,\u201d a spokesman for Trump\u2019s legal team said. \u201cThe President will continue to hold\u00a0accountable those who traffic in Fake News to mislead the American People.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">The lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2025\/07\/18\/trump-i-look-forward-to-watching-rupert-murdoch-testify\/\">stemmed<\/a> from a <em>Journal<\/em> article from last July, alleging that Trump sent a birthday letter to the late sex offender for his 50th birthday featuring third-person stylistic text inside a drawing of a naked woman and Trump\u2019s alleged signature.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>A Truth Social post at the time from the president\u2019s account said Trump \u201cwarned\u201d the publication and News Corp. owner Rupert Murdoch that the letter was \u201cFAKE.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"max-width: 100%; border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/114871422727186590\/embed\" width=\"600\" height=\"150\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly by President Donald J.
