Police in the Bahamas<\/a> on Monday were set to again interview a US man<\/a> who said his wife fell overboard from their boat.<\/p>\n In a statement on Sunday to the Guardian, Brian Hooker\u2019s attorney, Terrel Butler, said: \u201cThe police have requested another interview with [Brian Hooker] tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n The request came after police on Friday evening extended Hooker\u2019s custody by 72 hours, shortly after interviewing him<\/a> for more than three hours.<\/p>\n Hooker had previously told police that his 55-year-old wife, Lynette \u2013 to whom he has been married for more than two decades \u2013 went missing on 4 April after she fell overboard from their 8ft, hard-bottom dinghy while they were en route from Hope Town to Elbow Cay.<\/p>\n Hooker said he then paddled from Elbow Cay to Marsh Harbor Boat Yard, where he alerted authorities. He also said his wife had been holding the keys to the boat\u2019s engine, which shut off. \u201cStrong currents subsequently carried her away, and he lost sight of her,\u201d police said in an initial statement on 4 April.<\/p>\n Hooker was detained by Bahamian police on 8 April but has not been charged with a crime. The 72-hour extension on Friday was set to expire on Monday evening, which effectively was a deadline for Hooker to be released or charged.<\/p>\n He has denied any wrongdoing and is cooperating with police, his lawyer said.<\/a><\/p>\n Lynette\u2019s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has cast doubt on Hooker\u2019s account, telling various outlets that she did not believe her mother would \u201cjust fall\u201d<\/a> from a boat. She has also said that she believes<\/a> \u201cthis was probably pre-planned, if anything; like \u2013 it doesn\u2019t seem like just some accident.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking to<\/a> the Associated Press, Lynette\u2019s mother, Darlene Hamlett, said her daughter \u201cgrew up on water\u201d and has always been \u201cnear lakes, on boats, sailing and swimming\u201d.<\/p>\n The couple ran several social media accounts under the name The Sailing Hookers, including TikTok<\/a> and YouTube<\/a> \u2013 where they posted videos documenting their sailing journeys across the Caribbean.<\/p>\n Text messages Lynette sent in 2024 to a friend, Marnee Stevenson, and obtained by CBS News<\/a>, showed that the couple had previously decided to separate before reconciling.<\/p>\n \u201cI guess it was just too much closeness,\u201d Lynette wrote at the time. \u201cWe decided to call it quits. I\u2019m not going back,\u201d Lynette wrote in January 2024. She added: \u201cWe were married 21 years. Our marriage lasted 6 weeks cruising.\u201d<\/p>\n Lynette went on to say: \u201cIt was real bad. I can\u2019t be out there with him.\u201d<\/p>\n One month later, Stevenson messaged Lynette saying: \u201cLooks like things are on the up and up.\u201d Lynette replied with three red heart emojis and a thumbs-up.<\/p>\n In 2015, the couple accused each other of assault, according to a police report reviewed by NBC.<\/a> In the report, Hooker \u2013 who was intoxicated and had a bloody nose \u2013 said Lynette had hit him multiple times in the face. Lynette was subsequently arrested and spent a night in jail.<\/p>\n However, a warrant was denied due to \u201cinsufficient evidence as to who started the assault\u201d.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Aylesworth said the couple had a \u201chistory of not getting along, especially when they drink\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
