Maria Salazar (R-FL) says Republicans ought to pass her \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2026\/04\/09\/gop-rep-salazars-wage-cutting-amnesty-bill-attacks-trumps-populist-voters\/\">DIGNIDAD Act<\/a>,\u201d a broad amnesty scheme allowing millions of illegal aliens to remain in the United States while hugely expanding legal immigration levels, to prove to Democrats that they are not racist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">\u201cIt\u2019s impossible if we, the Republicans, put together a bill like this one on the floor, for any Democrat with Hispanics, supposedly you know \u2018Hispanics belong to the Democrats.\u2019 No, not anymore, because right now we\u2019re going to be demonstrating to the Dems that we are not such a bunch of racists, that we are giving them dignity, not citizenship,\u201d Salazar told Fox News\u2019s Brian Kilmeade on his radio show.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p>\u201cThis is the future of the Republican Party. Everyone knows that the coalition \u2026 we\u2019re a part of the coalition that put Trump into the White House,\u201d Salazar continued. \u201cHe says it himself. \u2018I won the seven swing states, and four them, the Hispanics put me over the top and I won the popular vote.\u2019 He\u2019s the guy, that\u2019s why I\u2019m saying, \u2018Hey, Mr. President, you have to sign this bill.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"DIGNITY Act EXPLAINED: Tough, Fair, No Amnesty | Mar\u00eda Elvira Salazar on Brian Kilmeade Show\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KLlnYH_TfKI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Salazar\u2019s bill, as Breitbart News has detailed for years, would offer amnesty to the roughly 10.5 million illegal aliens who lived in the U.S. prior to 2021, so long as they meet some requirements, while more than doubling employment-based legal immigration and blowing open foreign student pipelines in the hopes of giving special corporate interests a continuous flow of foreign labor to hire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">Thus far, the DIGNIDAD Act has garnered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2026\/04\/10\/the-list-19-republicans-now-back-salazars-amnesty-for-illegal-aliens\/\">support from 19<\/a> House Republicans, including Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY),\u00a0Monica De La Cruz (R-TX), Nick LaLota (R-NY), and Zachary Nunn (R-IA), among others.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<p>During the interview, Salazar repeatedly makes the claim that her bill does not offer any form of a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, with no pushback from Kilmeade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing we\u2019re going to give those people is the ability to stay and continue working in five important sectors,\u201d Salazar says, to which Kilmeade responds, \u201cNot citizenship?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no path to citizenship ever in the Dignity Act and that is why, I very much appreciate the fact that you\u2019re letting me clear the record because some of my critics are saying whatever they want to say,\u201d Salazar said.<\/p>\n<p>Kilmeade, using Salazar\u2019s talking point, said the bill \u201cis not amnesty because you\u2019re not giving citizenship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\">In fact, the DIGNIDAD Act allows millions of illegal aliens considered \u201cDREAMers\u201d to adjust their status to secure green cards, which puts them on a track to eventually gain naturalized American citizenship.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p>Similarly, the DIGNIDAD Act would likely increase naturalizations thanks to its provisions that massively increase the allotment of employment-based green cards. Those on such green cards can apply for naturalized citizenship after having lived in the U.S. for just five years.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the DREAM Act amnesty provisions, the bill also allows most of the nation\u2019s 11 to 22 million illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. through the so-called \u201cDignity Program,\u201d which eventually earns them \u201cDignity Status\u201d to stay in the country indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>Salazar\u2019s DIGNIDAD Act would codify the\u00a0Optional Practical Training (OPT), which gives a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2021\/03\/05\/exclusive-paul-gosar-big-tech-getting-15-percent-discount-to-hire-foreign-graduates-over-americans\/\">15.5 percent<\/a> discount to businesses that hire foreign U.S. graduates over Americans who recently graduated from colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John Binder is a reporter for Breitbart News.
