Takashi Yamazaki<\/a> is having a great CinemaCon<\/a>. The Japanese director of \u201cGodzilla Minus One<\/a>\u201d was announced to be directing his first English-language film<\/a>, a robot kaiju movie called \u201cGrandGear\u201d<\/a> as produced by J.J. Abrams that he\u2019s making for Sony. But he came to the CinemaCon stage in support of his next film, \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n Yamazaki, speaking to the CinemaCon crowd via translator, hyped up the film that he confirmed is a direct sequel to 2023\u2019s stellar \u201cGodzilla Minus One<\/a>,\u201d one that will also continue to follow the Shikishima family from the first film. <\/p>\n \u201cIn this new film, a new, even deeper despair will descend on Japan and the family. When faced with overwhelming and inescapable force, how do people fight back,\u201d Yamazaki said. \u201cThe journey from minus to zero will not be an easy one. Right now we are pouring all of our technology and passion into this new story of despair and hope, and I am truly excited for the day that \u2018Godzilla Minus Zero\u2019 brings many fans back to your cinemas again.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Speaking as part of a brief presentation with American distribution partner GKIDS on Tuesday, the crowd in Vegas was treated to a short but sweet behind the scenes feature and a teaser that informs two years have passed since the last film, and American forces are looking to see if it can make use of Godzilla. It\u2019s such a short teaser, but it ends with a striking image of Godzilla marching outside the Statue of Liberty, so we\u2019re here for it. <\/p>\n \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero\u201d is an IMAX production, which is a first for a Japanese film. And it\u2019s a big step up for an indie box office hit in \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d that became the first Japanese film to win the Oscar for Best Visual Effects<\/a>, and Yamazaki, who did VFX for the film himself, is one of only two directors alongside Stanley Kubrick to also win the VFX Oscar for their film. <\/p>\n \u201cGodzilla Minus One\u201d made $115.8 million worldwide and performed even better once it finally hit PVOD and later Netflix. Yamazaki said there was a point at which it wasn\u2019t even clear if production could continue on \u201cMinus One,\u201d but we\u2019re glad it did. <\/p>\n Watch the teaser for \u201cGodzilla Minus Zero\u201d above.
