Two sanctioned tankers linked to China appear to have changed their minds about challenging the United States Navy and reversed course.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CENTCOM\/status\/2044067513625936190\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over 10,000 American sailors, airmen, and Marines are involved in the blockade, working from over a dozen warships. In addition to enforcing the blockade, these U.S. forces are \u201csupporting freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDuring the first 24 hours, no ships made it past the U.S. blockade and six merchant vessels complied with direction from U.S. forces to turn around to re-enter an Iranian port on the Gulf of Oman,\u201d CENTCOM reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As night fell across the Persian Gulf region, CENTCOM posted an image of an F-35B stealth fighter preparing to take off from the USS <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tripoli, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an amphibious assault ship that resembles a small aircraft carrier:<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/t\/assets\/html\/tweet-5.html#2044128069976502591\" data-btlnk=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CENTCOM\/status\/2044128069976502591\" class=\"bnn-if-tweet\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"260\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ship tracking data <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/us-sanctioned-chinese-tanker-passes-strait-hormuz-despite-us-blockade-data-shows-2026-04-14\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">showed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that three of the eight ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz were tankers linked to Iran, but none of them stopped at an Iranian port, which would have defied the blockade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. military issued a notice to mariners that humanitarian cargoes will be exempt from the blockade, but no ships carrying such cargo have attempted to dock in Iran yet. CENTCOM said any other vessel \u201centering or departing the blockaded area without authorization\u201d will be subject to \u201cinterception, diversion, and capture.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the tankers tied to Iran was headed for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), possibly with a cargo of petrochemical products. The second was bound for Iraq, where it is scheduled to load fuel oil on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The third tanker, named <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rich Starry, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is owned by a Chinese company called Shanghai Xuanrun Shipping Co. and is under U.S. sanctions for carrying Iranian cargoes. Its current cargo appears to have been loaded at the port of Hamriyah in the UAE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BBC analysts <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/live\/cp9vm5ezxz4t?post=asset%3Aaa433f26-9a6a-40e7-adf4-38b70855d43b\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rich Starry <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and another tanker linked to China, the Botswana-flagged <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ostria, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">changed direction after approaching the blockade area. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rich Starry <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wound up <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/iran-us-cease-fire-talks-stalled-2026\/card\/the-ships-sailing-through-the-strait-of-hormuz-hours-into-u-s-blockade-of-iranian-ports-zJkcXeBTMs3YPmCFpeSK\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">making<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a complete U-turn later on Tuesday and sailed back into the Persian Gulf. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Botswana <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set sail from the UAE, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com.tr\/en\/middle-east\/2-tankers-turn-back-near-hormuz-after-us-blockade-takes-effect\/3904468\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">approached<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Strait of Hormuz, but then reversed course.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A bulk carrier linked to Iran named <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christianna <\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ndtv.com\/world-news\/2-ships-from-iran-ports-slip-past-us-blockade-cross-hormuz-report-11356316\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reportedly<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> unloaded corn at the Iranian port of Bandar Imam Khomeini on Monday, but the unloading appears to have occurred shortly before the blockade went into effect, and might have been allowed under the humanitarian exemption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another tanker under U.S. sanctions, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elpis, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cpassed the strait heading east on Tuesday and may have come from the Iranian port of Bushehr.\u201d The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elpis <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is carrying 31,000 metric tons of methanol, loaded at Bushehr on March 31, long before the blockade was imposed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. Treasury Department <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/national-security\/2026\/04\/13\/trump-blockade-threatens-irans-military-industrial-complex\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">granted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a temporary license for Iran to sell cargoes that were loaded aboard ships in March to ease the oil shock from the loss of Iranian supply. Depending on exactly when it was loaded, the cargo of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Elpis <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">could be covered by this license.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanctions-evading \u201cshadow fleet\u201d tankers have a habit of broadcasting false identification and position data to confuse their movements.
