Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) signed four gun control bills last week alone but released a statement today in which she said, \u201cI support the Second Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement from Spanberger coincided with her push to amend the current \u201cassault weapons\u201d ban legislation.<\/p>\n
Breitbart News noted<\/a> that Spanberger had until April 13, 2026, to sign or veto the legislation, but chose instead to offer changes to it. One of her proposed changes would significantly broaden the scope of the ban by shifting the focus from one type of ammunition magazine to another.<\/p>\n The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR)\u00a0pointed out<\/a>, \u201cThe version passed by the General Assembly defined an \u201cassault weapon\u201d as a semi automatic centerfire rifle or pistol with a fixed magazine capacity over 15 rounds.\u201d<\/p>\n Spanberger wants the word \u201cfixed\u201d stripped from the language of the bill.<\/p>\n NAGR noted that the result of Spanberger\u2019s change would be that \u201cany semi-auto that has a magazine capable of holding more than 15 rounds is now an \u2018assault firearm.’\u201d<\/p>\n This would seemingly include pistols.<\/p>\n WAVY news reported<\/a> a statement which Spanberger released with her proposed changes and the statement says, in part, \u201cI support the Second Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n AWR Hawkins is an award-winning Second Amendment columnist for Breitbart News\u00a0and the writer\/curator of\u00a0Down Range with AWR Hawkins<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>a weekly newsletter focused o<\/em>n al<\/em>l things Second Amendment, also for Breitbart News.
