Iran said on Wednesday that exchanges with the United States via Pakistan had continued following negotiations in Islamabad over the weekend<\/a> that yielded no result.<\/p>\n \u201cSince Sunday, when the Iranian delegation returned to Tehran, several messages have been exchanged through Pakistan,\u201d said foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei in a weekly press briefing.<\/p>\n \u201cToday, we are very likely to receive a Pakistani delegation as a continuation of the discussions in Islamabad,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n Baqaei asserted that Tehran\u2019s right to enrich uranium was \u201cindisputable\u201d although the level of enrichment is \u201cnegotiable\u201d.<\/p>\n The Iranian official said the right to peaceful use of nuclear energy could not be \u201ctaken away under pressure or through war\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cRegarding the level and type of enrichment, we have always stated that this issue is negotiable. We have emphasised that Iran should be able to continue enrichment in accordance with its needs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n The remarks come a day after US President Donald Trump said that talks between Washington and Tehran could resume over the next two days and that \u201cwe\u2019re more inclined to go\u201d to Pakistan, according to The New York Post<\/u><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cYou should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we\u2019re more inclined to go there,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s more likely, you know why? Because the Field Marshal is doing a great job. He\u2019s fantastic, and therefore it\u2019s more likely that we go back there,\u201c he told The NY Post<\/em>. \u201cWhy should we go to some country that has nothing to do with it?\u201d<\/p>\n This was after he earlier told the US media outlet that discussions were \u201chappening, but, you know, a little bit slow\u201d, before indicating that a second round of direct negotiations would likely happen somewhere in Europe.<\/p>\n And on Wednesday, in a clip shared of an interview shared by Fox<\/em>, Trump said that the war with Iran is \u201cvery close to over\u201d.<\/p>\n \n <\/a>\n <\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/span><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Pakistan hosted direct Iran-US talks<\/u><\/a> in Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday, marking the highest engagement between the two sides since 1979<\/u><\/a>. The talks ended without an agreement despite nearly 21 hours of talks. While no breakthrough was achieved, both sides indiicated that the diplomatic channel remained open.<\/p>\n On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif told<\/u><\/a> a meeting of the federal cabinet that \u201cfull efforts\u201d were ongoing to resolve the conflict.<\/p>\n Noting that the truce was still holding, he said, \u201cAs I am talking to you, matters that are not resolved, full efforts are underway to resolve them.\u201d<\/p>\n The ceasefire<\/u><\/a> between the US and Iran, brokered on April 8 after weeks of conflict, is set to expire on April 22. While technically intact, it is increasingly precarious.<\/p>\n The US has moved toward enforcing a naval blockade<\/u><\/a> of Iranian ports, prompting a warning<\/u><\/a> from Tehran that such a move would be a violation of the ceasefire.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
