Navy is aggressively enforcing the blockade against Iran, according to a U.S. official who said two oil tankers attempting to leave Iran were intercepted and turned back by an American destroyer on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The unnamed U.S. official <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/us-destroyer-interdicts-two-oil-tankers-attempting-leave-iran-official-says-2026-04-14\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Reuters that two tankers departed from Iran\u2019s port of Chabahar on the Gulf of Oman, only to be intercepted by a U.S. Navy destroyer that instructed them by radio to turn around. Both ships complied with the order.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chabahar is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.geopoliticalmonitor.com\/backgrounder-irans-chabahar-port\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">port city<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the southeastern coast of Iran. It was originally constructed in 1983, to give Iran alternatives to shipping through the Persian Gulf during the long and bloody Iran-Iraq War.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years, the Indian government made about $500 million in investments to expand the two major port complexes at Chabahar, giving them more deep-water berths for large cargo vessels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These investments were made in concert with India\u2019s development of a railroad through Afghanistan intended to link Chabahar with inland destinations that India cannot reach without going through Pakistan or the disputed Kashmir region \u2014 much as China is using the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project under its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to move Chinese exports to the Gulf of Oman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the summer of 2025, India appeared to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trtworld.com\/article\/e9605c09d611\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">liquidate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its interests in Chabahar, shortly before the United States imposed heavy sanctions on the port city. The U.S. granted India a six-month waiver from the sanctions on Chabahar \u2014 and that waiver is due to expire in less than two weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a9d\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some analysts view the April 26 expiration date of the sanctions as a ticking clock on India\u2019s hopes of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/timesofindia.indiatimes.com\/business\/india-business\/amid-us-iran-war-india-in-talks-with-trump-administration-for-chabahar-port-sanctions-waiver-why-its-important\/articleshow\/130079217.cms\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">preserving<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its huge investments in Chabahar by reaching a long-term sanctions waiver agreement with the United States, or possibly by hoping for the U.S. to lift sanctions on Iran as part of a peace deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week, after the U.S. temporarily waived sanctions on Iranian oil for ships already loaded with product, India <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/india-permits-iranian-oil-tankers-berth-reliance-sources-say-2026-04-10\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">granted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> special permission for four U.S.-sanctioned vessels to dock at Indian ports to sell their cargo. India\u2019s usual requirements for seaworthiness were waived to allow for a hasty docking. Two of those ships appear to have originated from Chabahar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was not clear from the Reuters report if either of the ships intercepted by the U.S. Navy on Tuesday were connected to India. The Pentagon did not respond to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/us-destroyer-interdicts-two-oil-tankers-trying-leave-iran-trumps-blockade\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">request<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for more details from Fox News on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CENTCOM\/status\/2044214177099567564\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">confirmed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Tuesday that \u201cU.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers are among the assets executing a blockade mission impacting Iranian ports.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe blockade is being enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or leaving coastal areas or ports in Iran,\u201d CENTCOM said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA typical destroyer has a crew of more than 300 Sailors that are highly trained in conducting offensive and defensive maritime operations,\u201d the statement added, possibly as fair warning to \u201cshadow fleet\u201d tankers thinking about slipping past the blockade with their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/economy\/2025\/12\/25\/massive-shadow-tanker-fleet-helps-rogue-nations-evade-u-s-sanctions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">usual tactics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of false identity and positional broadcasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ship tracking data from the first full day of the blockade on Tuesday <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2026\/04\/14\/chinese-tankers-turn-back-challenging-u-s-blockade-others-pass-strait-hormuz-safely\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">suggested<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that a few shadow fleet ships might have thought about challenging the blockade, but turned back when they got close to those U.S. Navy destroyers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Noam Raydan of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy told Reuters on Tuesday that it was too early to tell if any ships managed to slip past the blockade by \u201cgoing dark.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe just don\u2019t know yet how effective it is. We are still in day two,\u201d Raydan said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jerusalem Post <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on Wednesday <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/middle-east\/iran-news\/article-893049\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">suggested<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a complex geopolitical game is being played with the blockade, possibly including the U.S. Navy choosing to be a bit less vigilant against Chinese-linked ships to avoid the high political tensions that would result from boarding or attacking them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jerusalem Post\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analysts believe the China-linked tanker <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rich Starry, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which made a highly visible U-turn away from the U.S. Navy blockade line on Tuesday, tried again later on Tuesday night and was able to slip through \u2014 or was quietly allowed to pass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"a9d-pre\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe shadow fleet that moves Iranian oil was built for exactly this game: false flags, spoofed transponders, and ship-to-ship transfers off the coast of Malaysia,\u201d the report noted.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a9d adSo\"\/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cChina\u2019s customs records show zero imports from Iran since 2022, yet its recorded \u2018Malaysian\u2019 crude imports in 2025 reached 1.3 million barrels per day, more than double Malaysia\u2019s entire production. That evasion network has been running for years,\u201d it observed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jerusalem Post <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nevertheless concluded that China\u2019s shipments of Iranian oil would be reduced to a trickle by the blockade, and Beijing does not seem intent on forcing a confrontation with the U.S. by openly challenging it, so China probably will not be coming to Iran\u2019s rescue.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/middle-east\/2026\/04\/15\/u-s-navy-destroyer-prevents-two-oil-tankers-from-leaving-iran\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.N.
