Even as cartel carnage continues to cast a shadow<\/a>, Californians\u2019 favorite Mexican escape is turning up the heat on its tourism tax. <\/p>\n A fee that has already pushed this vacation paradise out of \u201cbargain\u201d territory isn\u2019t just sticking around \u2014 it\u2019s skyrocketing.<\/p>\n The government of Baja California Sur, which includes popular destinations like Los Cabos, recently<\/a> announced<\/a> that its mandatory \u201cEmbrace It\u201d fee will increase for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n As of January, international visitors over the age of 12 who stay longer than 24 hours will pay 488 Mexican pesos (about $28 USD), up from 470 pesos, according to SFGATE<\/a>.<\/p>\n The state government maintains that the levy is a necessary investment to fund environmental conservation, community development, and local tourism infrastructure.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGet the perfect blend of news, sports and entertainment delivered to your inbox every day.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Despite the added cost to travelers<\/a>, officials confirmed in December that the fee would remain in effect through the end of the year.<\/p>\n \u201cFor foreign travelers, clarity of requirements always makes a difference,\u201d Hugo Chapoy C\u00f3rdova, director of revenue at Tourist Tax M\u00e9xico, said in a news release<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe California Post is here.
