{"id":7232,"date":"2026-02-28T07:43:14","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T07:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=7232"},"modified":"2026-02-28T07:43:14","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T07:43:14","slug":"heart-disease-threat-projected-to-skyrocket-in-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/foreignnewstoday.com\/?p=7232","title":{"rendered":"Heart disease threat projected to skyrocket in women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft wp-block-nypost-editor-partner-article-links\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>A new report by the American Heart Association (AHA) included some troubling predictions for the future of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/19\/health\/what-is-frozen-shoulder-inside-the-weird-menopause-symptom\/\">women\u2019s health<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast, published in the journal Circulation on Wednesday, projected increases in various comorbidities in American females by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>More than 59% of women were predicted to have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/27\/health\/simple-tweak-to-your-routine-could-lower-high-blood-pressure\/\">high blood pressure<\/a>, up from less than 49% currently.<\/p>\n<p>The review also projected that more than 25% of women\u00a0will have <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/24\/health\/living-at-high-altitudes-could-reduce-risk-of-common-disease-study-suggests\/\">diabetes<\/a>, compared to about 15% today, and more than 61% will have obesity, compared to 44% currently.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of these risk factors, the prevalence of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/02\/26\/health\/3-heart-health-myths-a-cardiologist-wishes-youd-stop-believing\/\">cardiovascular disease<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/03\/health\/doctor-on-whats-causing-spike-of-stroke-cases-in-young-people\/\">stroke<\/a>\u00a0is expected to rise to 14.4% from 10.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Not all trends were negative, as <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/21\/health\/daily-pill-slashes-bad-cholesterol-levels-by-60-in-new-study\/\">unhealthy\u00a0cholesterol<\/a> prevalence\u00a0is expected to drop to about 22% from more than 42% today, the report stated.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Elizabeth Klodas, a cardiologist and founder of Step One Foods in Minnesota, commented on these \u201cjarring findings.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>A new report by the American Heart Association (AHA) included some troubling predictions for the future of\u00a0women\u2019s health. <span class=\"credit\">My Ocean studio \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The prevalence of cardiovascular disease\u00a0and stroke\u00a0is expected to rise to 14.4% from 10.7%. <span class=\"credit\">arcyto \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that on our current trajectory, cardiometabolic disease is projected to explode in women within one generation should be a huge wake-up call,\u201d she told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHypertension, diabetes, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/28\/health\/nearly-half-of-american-adults-will-be-obese-by-2035-forecast\/\">obesity<\/a> \u2014 these are all major risk factors for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/21\/health\/nearly-90-of-adults-have-some-form-of-this-silent-disease\/\">heart disease<\/a>, and we are already seeing what those risks are driving. Klodas noted that these are sex-specific risk factors that don\u2019t typically contribute to complications until after <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/27\/health\/how-menopause-can-change-your-brain-and-the-therapy-that-helps\/\">menopause<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to protect a healthy heart is to \u201cdo the basics,\u201d Klodas recommended, including the following lifestyle habits.<\/p>\n<p>Klodas especially emphasized <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/contributor-content\/eating-for-gut-health-simple-nutritious-choices-that-help-promote-overall-health\/\">making\u00a0improvements to diet<\/a>, as the food people eat affects \u201cevery single risk factor that the AHA\u2019s report highlights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHigh blood pressure, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/27\/health\/this-pre-meal-trick-can-help-you-regulate-your-blood-sugar\/\">high blood sugar<\/a>, high cholesterol, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/21\/health\/excess-belly-fat-has-surprising-link-to-chronic-skin-condition-study\/\">excess weight <\/a>\u2014 these are all conditions that are driven in part or in whole by food,\u201d she said. \u201cWe eat multiple times every single day, which means what we eat has profound cumulative effects over time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven a small improvement in dietary intake, when maintained, can have a massive positive impact on health.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The doctor also recommends changing out a few snacks per day for\u00a0healthier choices, which has been proven to \u201cyield medication-level cholesterol reductions\u201d in a month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeep up that small change and, over the course of a year, you could also lose 20 pounds and reduce your sodium intake enough to avoid blood pressure-lowering medications,\u201d Klodas added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen should not view the AHA report as inevitable. We have power over our health destinies.
