\n Even though Russia has \u201cmany more\u201d nuclear bombs than the US and Europe, discussions about a possible nuclear war are not necessary, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Friday.\u00a0\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThere is no need to think about it [nuclear war]. And I would ask anyone to not mention anything like that,\u201d he said at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum.\u00a0\n <\/p>\n
\n Putin added that Russian forces are \u201cincreasing their effectiveness,\u201d about 27 months into Moscow\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russia\u2019s defense industry has increased shell production by 20%, and its forces are \u201csurpassing the capabilities of our enemies\u201d when it comes to aircraft and tanks, he said.\n <\/p>\n
\n Veiled threats: <\/strong>Putin has repeatedly made remarks<\/a> on the possibility of using nuclear weapons. On Friday, the Russian leader said his country has nuclear weapons that are more powerful than the bombs the Americans dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II, \u201cbut it won\u2019t come to this.\u201d Russia\u2019s total nuclear stockpile is larger than the United States\u2019, at around 6,250 total nuclear warheads, according to the Arms Control Association<\/a>. The US has more than 5,500.\n <\/p>\n \n Legacy of nuclear war: <\/strong>Washington unleashed atomic bombs<\/a> on both Japanese cities in August 1945, leaving years of destruction and psychological trauma<\/a> on communities there.\n <\/p>\n \n At least 70,000 people were killed in the initial blast in Hiroshima, while approximately 70,000 more died from radiation exposure.
