ASHFORD, CT (WFSB) – An animal control officer reported that a child was bitten by a raccoon in Ashford.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was wrapping its arms around my leg,\u201d she explained. \u201cIt really hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n
State police said they responded to the incident on Fitts Road to assist the officer.<\/p>\n
Video of the incident was captured by a surveillance camera:<\/p>\n It happened around 7:55 a.m. on Friday.<\/p>\n \u201cI was going out to get on the bus and a racoon was there and tried to attack me,\u201d said 5-year-old Rylee MacNamara of Ashford. \u201cIt didn\u2019t want to go off of my leg.\u201d<\/p>\n Rylee MacNamara said she and her mother suffered some bite marks and scratches before her mother was able to yank the animal off her.<\/p>\n Panicking, Logan, Rylees mother, screams for help.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s a rabid racoon, get some help!,\u201d said Logan.<\/p>\n The raccoon ran off into the woods after she threw it off.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no word yet on if the animal was rabid.<\/p>\n \u201cI thought maybe she slammed her finger in the door. I definitely wasn\u2019t expecting to see a racoon wrapped around her leg,\u201d Logan said.<\/p>\n The two went to the hospital, received rabies shots, and were back home in a couple of hours.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just kind of panicked at first. I was more scared than anything,\u201d said Logan.<\/p>\n Neighbor, Jessica Gessay, isn\u2019t surprised this happened.<\/p>\n \u201cThese woods around here… I fear them. There\u2019s things out here. Animals, wild animals things like that,\u201d said Jessica.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s disturbing that it would be that close to our houses,\u201d added Dave Frank, Ashford.<\/p>\n Animal control spent Friday morning in the woods to try and track down the animal. However, it was nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n The Macnamara\u2019s might take it into their own hands by setting traps around the house.<\/p>\n Rylee and Logan will head back to the hospital every couple of days for the next two weeks to get more shots.<\/p>\n They Macnamara\u2019s also say their kids won\u2019t be allowed outside alone in the near future.<\/p>\n Copyright 2022 WFSB.
