قال الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، إن «الإيرانيين خسروا دفاعهم الجوي وقواتهم الجوية وبحريتهم وقادتهم ثم أرادوا التفاوض، فقلت فات الأوان»، في الوقت الذي تواصل الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل عملياتهما العسكرية ضد إيران.
وكتب ترمب على منصته «تروث سوشال»: «دفاعهم الجوي، وقواتهم الجوية، وبحريتهم، وقيادتهم انتهت.. إنهم يريدون التحدث. قلت: فات الأوان».
وكان الرئيس ترمب، الذي قرر شن غارات جوية على إيران بالتنسيق مع إسرائيل، السبت، قد توقع في البداية أن تستمر الحرب من 4 إلى 5 أسابيع، لكنه سعى لاحقاً إلى تقديم مبررات لحرب واسعة النطاق مفتوحة النهاية.
وأشار ترمب إلى سعي إيران لامتلاك أسلحة نووية -وهو ما تنفيه طهران- كأحد مبررات الهجوم الأمريكي الإسرائيلي، الذي أسفر عن اغتيال المرشد الإيراني علي خامنئي، ما أدى إلى اتساع رقعة الصراع عبر الشرق الأوسط.
وبدأت الولايات المتحدة وإسرائيل الحرب على إيران، السبت، وشنّت قوات البلدين ضربات جوية استهدفت مواقع عسكرية وعدداً من أبرز قادة البلاد، وفي المقابل قصفت إيران عدداً من دول المنطقة بالصواريخ والمسيّرات.
واعتبر ترمب أن العلاقة التاريخية بين بلاده وبريطانيا «لم تعد كما كانت».
وبعد رفض رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر السماح للولايات المتحدة باستخدام القاعدتين البريطانيتين في قبرص بالحرب مع إيران، قال ترمب لصحيفة «ذي صن» البريطانية: «كانت هذه العلاقة الأقوى. والآن لدينا علاقات قوية مع بلدان أخرى في أوروبا».
وأكد أن ستارمر «لم يكن متعاوناً»، مضيفاً: «لم أتخيّل قط بأن أرى ذلك يحصل. لم أتصور بأن تتصرف بريطانيا هكذا. نحن نحب بريطانيا».
وأردف في المقابلة التي جرت عبر الهاتف من البيت الأبيض مساء أمس (الإثنين): «إنه عالم مختلف في الحقيقة. إنها علاقة مختلفة كثيراً عن تلك التي كانت تربطنا ببلدكم في السابق».
U.S. President Donald Trump said, “The Iranians have lost their air defense, their air forces, their navy, and their leaders, and then they wanted to negotiate, so I said it’s too late,” as the United States and Israel continue their military operations against Iran.
Trump wrote on his platform “Truth Social”: “Their air defense, air forces, navy, and leadership are over… They want to talk. I said: It’s too late.”
President Trump, who decided to launch airstrikes on Iran in coordination with Israel on Saturday, initially expected the war to last 4 to 5 weeks, but later sought to provide justifications for an open-ended large-scale war.
Trump pointed to Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons – which Tehran denies – as one of the justifications for the U.S.-Israeli attack, which resulted in the assassination of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, leading to an escalation of the conflict across the Middle East.
The United States and Israel began the war on Iran on Saturday, with forces from both countries launching airstrikes targeting military sites and several prominent leaders in the country, while Iran retaliated by launching missiles and drones at several countries in the region.
Trump considered that the historical relationship between his country and Britain “is no longer what it was.”
After British Prime Minister Keir Starmer refused to allow the United States to use the two British bases in Cyprus in the war with Iran, Trump told the British newspaper “The Sun”: “That was the strongest relationship. And now we have strong relationships with other countries in Europe.”
He confirmed that Starmer “was not cooperative,” adding: “I never imagined I would see that happen. I didn’t think Britain would act this way. We love Britain.”
He added in the interview conducted via phone from the White House last night (Monday): “It’s a different world, really. It’s a very different relationship from the one we used to have with your country.”
